Maria Bueno

Maria Bueno, age 82, of Kermit, Texas passed from this life on Wednesday, January 9, 2013. She was born February 25, 1930 to Julian and Gerardo (Garcia) Fraga in Gossett, TX.  She married Angel Bueno on Jan 20, 1950 and they celebrated 62 years together before his death in 2012.

Maria was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit.  She was a very happy person who loved to smile, laugh, and sing as she worked around the house.  Known for her cooking skills, she always made sure her family was well taken care of.  Maria loved to garden and sew.  To her friends and family she went by the special nickname “Tona”.

She leaves behind three sons: Adam Bueno of Odessa, Miguel Bueno of Odessa, Brig Bueno of Kermit; four daughters: Eva Rodriguez and husband Angel of Odessa, Abigail Marrufo and husband Albert of Wink, Guillermina Lopez of Kermit, Lerida Armendariz of Kermit; two brothers: Jose Fraga and wife Carmen of Mexico and Carmen Fraga of Mexico; ten grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband:  Angel Bueno and her parents: Julian and Gerardo Fraga.

Rosary will be said, 7 pm, Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Family Services Funeral Parlor.  Mass of Christian burial will be, 3 pm, Friday, January 11, 2013 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit officiated by Father Lacerna.  Pallbearers will include: Ariel Rodriguez, Fabien Marrufo, Michael Rodriguez, Jose Angel Armendariz, Harold Lopez Jr., and Garrett Egger.  Honorary Pallbearers will include:  Herminio Bueno, Oscar Bueno, Mario Bueno, and Elias Emiliano.   Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery in Kermit, TX.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Bettye L. (Powell) Pratt

Bettye L. (Powell) Pratt, age 80, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013 in Monahans, TX.  She was born April 17, 1932 in Mitchell County, TX to Cullen and Ruth (Lindsey) Powell.

Bettye was a member of the Church of Christ.  She greatly enjoyed going out to eat with her friends and visiting with them at the Senior Citizens Center.  Bettye had a laugh that brought joy to those around her and a great sense of humor.  Often she could be found around town looking for treasures at the local garage sales.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her brother: Troy Powell of Westbrook, TX; sister:  Billie True Morton and husband Charles of Burleson, TX; two nephews:  Doyce Lee Powell Jr. and Troy Edward Morton; and niece:  Terri Lynn Spann.  She is also survived by her special friends: Doris Adams and husband Stanley, Lyndsey Burch and husband Jorey and their children: Scott and Spencer, and Camille Selby and husband Jason and their children: Jeremy and Joshua

She was preceded in death by parents; and two brothers: Doyce Lee Powell and Edsel Powell.

Graveside Services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the Colorado City Cemetery in Colorado City, TX.  Services will be officiated by Glenda Mixon.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Opal Oleeta Bale

Opal Oleeta Bale, age 89, of Kermit, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 in Midland, TX. She was born August 8, 1923, in Seymour, TX to William and Zora (Reynolds) Cunningham.

Everyone called Opal “Happle”. She loved being around her family. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas. She was known as a great cook and routinely cooked enough to feed everyone.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her sons: Charles Bale Jr. and wife Bonnita of Robert Lee, TX and Larry Bale and wife Kay of Houston, TX; two daughters: Betty Horn and husband Jack of Payson, AZ and Ilene Pilkington of Kermit, TX; one sister: Emma “Bea” Messinger of Haskell, TX; fifteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one son-in-law: Larry Gene Owens Sr. of Kermit, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Charles Emmitt Bale; one daughter: Carolyn Owens; her parents: William and Zora Cunningham; two brothers: Chester and Norris Cunningham; one sister: Geneva Kingston and one grandson: Emmitt Ray Bale.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit, TX with Pastor Don Heatherington officiating. Pallbearers will be: Larry Owens Jr., Larry Bale Jr., Emmitt Bale, Gary Pilkington, Ryan Pilkington, Trey Bale, Jeremy Chaney and Ronnie Sebree.  Honorary Pallbearer will be: Kary Owens.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Ignacia Dominguez Galindo

Ignacia Dominguez Galindo, of Kermit, TX passed away Friday, January 25, 2013 in Kermit, TX at the age of 83.  She was born in Manuel Benavides, Mexico on February 12, 1929 to the late Feliz and Victoria (Baeza) Dominguez.  

Ignacia was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit. She was a great cook and was especially known for her tamales. She was a hard worker who enjoyed going to church. She loved dancing and going to the horse races. Her special nickname was “Nacha”.

Those left to cherish her love and memory include her husband of 66 years: Epifanio Galindo of Kermit, TX; six sons: Bernabe Galindo and wife Fernanda of Guaymas, MX, David Galindo and wife Dolores of Ft. Stockton, TX, Cosme Galindo and wife Alma of Merida, MX, Hector Galindo and wife Eva of Grandfalls, TX, Bacilio Galindo of Kermit, TX and Epifanio Galindo Jr. of Ojinaga, MX; five daughters: Barbara Guadalupe Galindo of Monterrey, MX, Maria Vasquez and husband Rodrigo of Las Cruces, NM, Noemy Martinez and husband Johnny of Kermit, TX, Graciela Borunda and husband Socorro of Kermit, TX and Sylvia Bustamante and husband Julian of Las Cruces, NM; fifty three grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son: Eliazar Galindo; seven brothers: Liberato, Dionicio, Pilar, Jesus, Eugenio, Manuel and Margarito and one sister: Pablita.

Rosary will be said 7:00 pm, Sunday, January 27, 2012 at Family Services Funeral Parlor.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, January 28, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Kermit at 2:00 pm, officiated by Father Rudy Lacerna.  Pallbearers will be: Angel Martinez, Carlos Bernal, Eric Borunda, Jesus Olivas, Jose Galindo and Hector Galindo Jr. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.

Artemio Hernandez

Artemio Hernandez Jr., age 48, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2013 in Odessa, TX.  He was born February 3, 1964 in Lamar CO to Artemio Hernandez Sr. and Pauline (Lucero) Hernandez.

Artemio loved the high life, hanging out with friends and family and classic rock music. He was a diehard Denver Broncos fan. He will be missed by his family and many friends.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his father: Artemio Hernandez Sr. of Kermit, TX; two brothers: Dave Reza of Pueblo, CO and Marcelino Hernandez of Lamar CO; three sisters: Maria Elena Chavez of Kermit, TX, Herlinda Anaya and husband Rene of Mexico and Martha Muniz and husband Ramon of Kermit, TX; one brother-in-law: Joe Ramos of Holly, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother: Pauline Hernandez and his sister: Rachel Ramos.

Rosary will be said 7:00 pm Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Family Services Funeral Chapel. A prayer service will be held on 2:00 pm Friday, February 1, 2013 at Family Funeral Services Funeral Chapel. Services will be officiated by Pastor Robert Moreno.  Interment will be in Wiley Cemetery in Wiley, Colorado.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Artemio Hernandez Sr.

Artemio Hernandez Sr., age 88, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2013 in Kermit, TX.  He was born January 2, 1925 in Mulato, MX to Ramon Payen and Herculana Hernandez.

Artemio loved being a cowboy. He was a farmer at heart and enjoyed such activities as working with horses, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed dancing.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his son: Marcelino Hernandez of Lamar CO.; three daughters: Maria Elena Chavez of Kermit, TX, Herlinda Anaya and husband Rene of Mexico and Martha Muniz and husband Ramon of Kermit, TX; one brother: Rojelio Hernandez of KS; two sisters: Elva Salinas of Ojinaga, MX and Rosa Rivera and husband Velinco of Ojinaga, MX; thirteen grandchildren; twenty three great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Pauline Hernandez; one son: Artemio Hernandez Jr. and his parents.

Graveside Services will be 2:00 pm, February 2, 2013 at Kermit Cemetery in Kermit, TX. Services will be officiated by Pastor Robert Moreno.  Pallbearers will be: Jose Chavez, Alfonzo Chavez, Jose Montoya, Rojelio Hernandez, Ruben Saenz and Daniel Muniz. Honorary Pallbearer will be Marceleno Hernandez.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Worley
Worley Zelton Clark

Worley Zelton Clark, age 84, passed away Monday, February 4, 2013 in Odessa, TX.  He was born October 20, 1928 in Durant, OK to Worley and Geneva (Thompson) Clark.

Worley enjoyed fishing, traveling and vacationing in South Padre Island. He was known for his vast collection of beer cans and coins.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter: Londa Clark-Tarpley of Houston, TX; one step-son: Clay Milstead of New Bern, NC; one step-daughter: Melinda Nickless of Austin, TX and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Mary Frances Clark and his parents.

Graveside Services will be 10:00 am Thursday, February 7, 2013 at the Kermit Cemetery in Kermit, TX.  Services will be officiated by Brother Rob Matney.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Dora Tarango Valeriano

Dora Tarango Valeriano, age 53, of Kermit, Texas passed from this life on Thursday, February 8, 2013. She was born February 26, 1959 to Jose and Manuela (Gamboa) Tarango in El Comedor, Mexico. 

Dora was well known for her homemade bread. She loved to shop, especially at Walmart. She loved to dance and was a very talented singer.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband: Ricardo Valeriano; four sons: Omar Alvarez of Juarez, MX, Alvaro, Abel and Adolfo Alvarez all of Portales, NM; two daughters: Aracely Alvarez of Portales, NM and Adriana Matheny and husband Shawn of Chicago, II; seven brothers: Margarito Tarango of Hobbs, NM, Juan, Antonio, Chayo, Jaciento and  Ramon Tarango all of Mexico and Jorge Tarango of Midland, TX; one sister: Manuela Tarango of Coyame, MX; twenty one grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: Dimetrio, Juan and Prajedise Tarango.

Rosary will be said at 7 pm, Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Family Services Funeral Parlor.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 pm, Monday, February 11, 2013 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit officiated by Father Rudy Lacerna.  Pallbearers will include: Alvaro Alvarez, Abel Alvarez, Adolfo Alvarez, Ricardo Valeriano, Luis Ramos and Jose Ramos. Honorary Pallbearer will be Omar Alvarez.   Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery in Kermit, TX.

Johnnie Elma (Liles) Anderson

Johnnie Elma (Liles) Anderson, age 94, of Midland and formerly Kermit, died on February 10, 2013 in Seminole, Texas. She was born in Carbon, TX and was the oldest of eight children born to Elbert and Florence Liles.  

Growing up, Johnnie lived on farms in many West Texas towns and finished her schooling at Peacock, TX. In 1952, she and her husband Arthur (Andy) Anderson settled in Kermit and were members of Grace Temple Baptist Church. On Avenue D, she enjoyed operating the Doll Shoppe from her home. After moving to Midland in 1987, she enjoyed spending hours with the West Texas Writers.

She is survived by one son: Albert Ray Anderson, Jr. and two daughters: Anita Fern Hudgpeth and Deanna Anderson McDonald; grandchildren: Billy and Johnny Anderson, Gloria Ann McCullars, Jay Hudgpeth, Chance McDonald and Andrew Anderson; 7 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren and siblings: Rae Nell Alger, Frances Gladden, Roy and Bland Liles.  

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son: Bill Don Anderson; grandson: Eddy Hudgpeth and siblings: Ruth DeShazer, Doris Vincent and O’Conner Liles.  

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the Kermit Cemetery. Services are under the direction on Family Services Funeral Parlor. The family requests memorials be sent to Seminole Memorial Hospice, located at 209 NW Avenue B, Seminole, TX 79360.

Lucy Allen

Lucy Allen, age 91, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2013 in Jal, NM.  She was born February 9, 1922 in Queen, NM to Dave and Susan (Middleton) McCollaum.  Lucy married John David Allen on Oct 1, 1940 in Alamogordo, NM and they celebrated 65 years together before his death in 2006.

Lucy was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She was a very crafty person, who enjoyed crocheting, sewing, ceramics and needle point.  She was a 50 plus year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Jal Chapter #60 and a member of the DeMolay Mothers Club and the Rainbow Girls. She was known to her friends and family as “Grammers”.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her son: John Dee Allen and wife Karen of Las Cruces, NM; one daughter: Ronna Lee Barnes of Jal, NM; six grandchildren: Derma, Merna, Lonna, Jana, Jason and Justin; seventeen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband: John David Allen; parents; two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am MST, Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church in Jal, NM with Brother Alan Speed officiating. Interment will follow at Jal Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her family. Honorary Pallbearers will include: Danny Cowell, Kenneth McCollaum, Don Green, and Mike Pierce Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Corine Cotton Spykes

Corine Cotton Spykes, age 81, of Kermit, passed away Friday, February 22, 2013 in Kermit, TX. She was born April 5, 1931 in Tallassee, AL to William and Ida (Davis) Burdette.

Corine loved gardening and growing flowers, fishing and feeding the birds. She was a hard working woman and a good cook, who loved the Lord and passing out Bibles. She was very active in church and studied her Bible regularly. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hope Clower for all the love and care she showed our dear mom.

She was preceded in death by her first husband: Buford Leonard Cotton; her second husband: Ralph Edwards Spykes; two sons; three brothers: Andrew, Joe and Olice; one sister: Lois; and one grandson: Buford Zane.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Northside Baptist Church in Kermit, TX with Brother Eddie Cotton officiating and assisted by Brother Eddie Whitefield. Pallbearers will be: Rickey Loflin, David Harbin, Seth Harbin, Dewayne Brown, Eddie Cotton Jr., Brandon Cotton, Justin Barnett and Mike Crawford. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Todd Brunson, Chris Reed, Shawn Reed, Jay Brown and Scott Tate.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery in Kermit, TX.

Gloria Carrasco Roman

Gloria Carrasco Roman, age 82, of Kermit, Texas passed from this life on Saturday, February 23, 2013. She was born April 19, 1930 to Lorenzo and Manuela (Meraz) in San Antonio Del Bravo, MX.

Gloria was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit.  She was known as a very good cook, who liked to bake and enjoyed taking care of her house.

She leaves behind one daughter: Norma Juarez and husband Antonio of Kermit, TX; two brothers: Candelario Carrasco and wife Thomasa of Ojnaga, MX and Ramon Carrasco of Midland, TX; two grandchildren: Adrian Juarez of Midland, TX and Carina Juarez of San Angelo, TX; one great-grandchild: Emily Juarez.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Enrique Carrasco and Tiofilo Carrasco; and four sisters:  Delfina Navarrete, Juana Olias, Socorro Carrasco and Faustina Lujan.

Rosary will be said at 7 pm, Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Family Services Funeral Parlor.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 pm, Monday, February 25, 2013 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit officiated by Father Rudy Lacerna. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.   Pallbearers will include: Adrian Juarez, Erbey Carrasco, Efrain Carrasco, Erbey Carrasco Jr., Luis Arturo Natividad, Jamar Natividad and Gavin Franco.
