Clarence Edward Landry |

Clarence Edward
Landry was born on Friday, April 28, 1939 at 12:30 a.m. in Uvalde,
Texas, to Clarence Joseph Landry and Jimmy Klete Morgan Landry. He
passed away after a two-year battle with cancer on May 2, 2008.
Ed came to Wink in
1951 with his family during his sixth grade year and graduated from
Wink High School in 1957. In 1959, he completed Texas Barber College
and returned to Wink beginning his barber career in Kermit at the
Austin Street Barber Shop. It was at that time he met Annetta while
she was working during the summer at the soda fountain of L.B. Drug
Store across the street from the barbershop. In January 1962, Ed
began his service in the U.S. Army as a Medic during the Vietnam Era
and was later discharged on December 23, 1964. Ed and Annetta
returned to Wink in January 1965, buying a home and opening City
Barber Shop in downtown Wink. In 1973, he closed the barbershop to
work for Lone Star Gas in Pyote for five years before moving on to
Atlantic Richfield Oil Company until his retirement in 1999.
Ed and Annetta
married June 8, 1963 at Northside Baptist Church in Kermit. Ed made
his profession of faith in Jesus Christ on July 23, 1968 at First
Baptist Church in Wink and has been a faithful member there since
that time.
Ed enjoyed RVing
with his family, photography, woodworking, being a rockhound,
following the Wink Wildcats, and caring for his home and yard. In
recent years, his two granddaughters were his joy.
He leaves behind
his family and friends, most especially his wife and best friend of
forty-four years, Annetta Leeson Landry. Ed is also survived by his
two daughters: Cynthia Marcum and husband Jerry of Anadarko, OK and
Amy Kaarlela and husband Mitch of Fort Worth; two granddaughters:
Beth and Jill Kaarlela of Forth Worth; one brother: Guy Landry and
wife Mary Jean of Pearsall, TX; three nieces: Sheryl Hill and
husband Scott of Hondo, TX, Shanna Gates and husband Jim of
Pearsall, TX, and Shelly Clayton and husband Kirk of Bryson, TX; and
a host of in-laws and friends.
In lieu of flowers
and plants, the family requests that memorials be made to the
Building Fund of First Baptist Church, Box 667, Wink, Texas 79789.
Services will be
held 2:00 pm, Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in
Wink with Brother Richard Ray officiating. Pallbearers will be
Ronnie Leeson, Kenny Leeson, G.B. Leeson, Bobby Leeson, Jerole
Morgan and Dwayne Roberts. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dale Carman
and Glynn Donehoo. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.
Services are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor. |

Jesus Marie Rivas,
age 56 of Kermit, Texas passed away May 6, 2008 in Odessa, Texas
due to a long illness. He was born in San Antonio, Mexico on June
21, 1951 to Alfonso and Paula (Prieto) Rivas.
He is survived by
four sons: Jesus Rivas, Andy Rivas, Gabriel Rivas and Alfonso Rivas;
three daughters: Erica Rivas, Jenette Rivas and Jessica Rivas; three
brothers: Francisco Rivas, Martin Rivas and Manuel Rivas; three
sisters: Josefina Apodaca, Socorro Rivas and Luzdivina Rivas; and
four grandchildren: Cristofer Ontiveros, Zachary Jordan Rivas,
Nayeli Ontiveros and Aidan Ontiveros.
Rosary will be said 7:00 pm May 9, 2008 at Family Service Funeral Parlor in Kermit,
Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am at St. Joseph
Catholic Church, May 10, 2008. Interment will follow at Kermit
Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Alice Marie Webster
age 94, of Kermit passed away Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Kermit
Healthcare Center. She was born Monday, November 24, 1913, in
Merkel, Taylor County, Texas to George and Sarah (Davis) Reeves.
Mrs. Webster was a member of First Baptist Church in Jal, New
Mexico. In her free time she delighted in arts and crafts, such as
needlepoint and tri-chem. She enjoyed raising chickens. Being a
homemaker was her #1 priority. People came from all over to eat her
homemade biscuits and cookies. She is well known in Jal for
babysitting and helping to raise half of the community. Mrs.
Webster was known to many as a grandmother, and was often called
“Granny Webster” or” Mama Webster”. She touched many lives and was
loved by everyone.
Those left to
cherish her memories are five sons: Bobby Boen and wife Rosemary of
Jal, NM; Clifton Jones and wife Patty of Groesbeck, TX; Wesley
Webster and wife Anita of Lafayette, LA; Wayne Webster and wife
Marsha of Jal, NM; and James Webster and wife Cindy of Sourdough,
TX; three daughters: Sarah Powell and husband Frankie of Green
Forrest, AR; Barbara Brittain and husband Larry of Artesia, NM and
Jo Pilcher and husband Floyd of Jal, NM; 34 grandchildren, 42
great-grandchildren and a very special friend, Annie Mills.
She was preceded in
death by her husband: William Cole Webster; her parents: George and
Sarah (Davis) Reeves; one son: Douglas Boen; two granddaughters:
Donna Sue Thomas and Cynthia Ann Boen and 12 siblings.
Graveside services
will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Kermit Cemetery in
Kermit, TX officiated by Brother Michael May. Services are entrusted
to Family Services Funeral Parlor. |

James Ernest Browning, age 51, of Kermit died
Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at Medical Center Hospital after his battle
with health problems. He was born Sunday, October 14, 1956 in
Tallapoosa County, Alabama to Ronald and Lois (Colley) Browning. He
worked as an overland truck driver and was a member of Westside
Apostolic Church in Odessa.
Those left to cherish his memory are one son: James
Barker and wife Kristen Ginther of Abilene; two daughters: Brandi
Browning and husband Rusty Boner of Abilene, and Bridget Browning
and husband Aaron Young Jr. of Kermit; his mother: Lois Browning of
Kermit; two brothers: Leon Browning and wife Debbie of Odessa, and
Barney Browning and wife Ramona of Kermit; one sister: Denise
Graham and husband Ron of Monahans; four grandchildren: Arron Lee
Boner, Destiny Rose Boner, Denyka Young, and Gary Young.
James was preceded in death by his father: Ronald
Heflin Browning.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday,
May 17, 2008 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit with
Brother Allen Harris officiating. Pallbearers will be Cody
Browning, Adam Speights, Michael McKee, David Lovelady, James Barker
and Aaron Young Jr. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.

Sibyl Andres
Sherrill, age 90, of Kermit passed away Saturday, May 17, 2008 at
Manor Park Nursing Complex in Midland, TX. She was born Saturday,
October 6, 1917 in Lueders, Texas to Charles and Elizabeth (Graham)
Lambert. She was the third child of six children. She married Jim
White Sherrill on April 20, 1938. They raised two children and were
married for 46 years until the time of his death.
She was a devoted
wife and mother. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed keeping
her great-grandchildren. She was a devoted and active member of the
Church of Christ from early life. She loved to visit and be with
members of the church. She brought her husband to Christ after many
years of marriage and raised both of her children in the church.
She was a “Pink Lady” at Memorial Hospital for many years. She took
exceptional care of her husband during his extended illness with a
terminal disease.
Mrs. Sherrill is
survived by her son: Jimmy Ronald Sherrill and wife Nelda of
Smithville, Texas; her daughter: Karen Ann Crouse and husband Jack
of Midland, Texas; six grandchildren:: Lesa Stowe and husband Ron of
Austin, Texas, Terrance Sherrill and wife Mary of Enid, Oklahoma,
Jimmy Crouse of Midland, Texas, Jill Beck and husband Tippy of
Midland, Texas, Robin Easley and husband Jay of Kermit, Texas, and
Boyd Sherrill and wife Cathy of Smithville, Texas; thirteen
great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in
death by her parents, brothers and sisters, her husband, a
daughter-in-law: Anna Beth Sherrill and one grandson: Graham Junius.
Family visitation
will be 6-7 pm, Tuesday, May 20, 2008. Graveside services will
be: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at Kermit Cemetery officiated
by Brother Rick Derrick. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Terrance
Sherrill, Jim Crouse, Boyd Sherrill, Ron Stowe, Tippy Beck and Jay
Easley. Services are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor. |

Gene Haley |

Robert Eugene Haley was
born Tuesday, October 2, 1928 to John Furman Haley and Florence Mae
(Trent) Haley in Pecos, TX. He married Darby Crabb in Lovington, NM
March 21, 1952. Together they raised four children. He was a
rancher at heart, devoting more than 75 years to his trade. He also
enjoyed hunting, fishing, lapidary, collecting rocks and making
jewelry. He has been affiliated with Free Will Baptist Church.
Gene left this life Saturday, May 24, 2008.
Those left to mourn his
loss include his wife: Darby Joy Haley of Kermit; son: Lee Haley
and wife Sharon of Brownwood, TX; three daughters: Sherry Bailey
and husband Jack of Odessa, Darby Ann Mitchell and husband Billy of
Midland, and Anita Janette Haley of Wink; one brother: John A.
Haley and wife Stefanie of Kermit; ten grandchildren: Chris, John,
Matt, Jerold, Dawson, Tiffany, Kyle, Kendra, Miranda and Emily; and
eleven great-grandchildren: Megan, Brittany, Hayden, Tyler, Alexis,
Brandon, Justin, Brooklyn, Allysa, Macaela and Cheyenne.
He was preceded in death
by his parents: John and Florence Haley, and one son: Dawson Trent
Haley.
Graveside services will
be held 10:30 am Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at the Haley Ranch Cemetery
officiated by Pastor R.F. Ford. Pallbearers will be son: Lee Haley
and grandsons: Chris Haley, Dawson Haley, John Mitchell, Matt
Mitchell, and Jerold Mitchell. Arrangements are entrusted to Family
Services Funeral Parlor. |

Rafael “Ray” J.
Garcia of Kermit passed from this life on May 29, 2008 after his
long battle with illness. He was born in Pecos, TX on October 24,
1950 to Brigido and Jesus (Hernandez) Garcia.
Ray is survived by
two daughters: Rachel and Rebecca, one brother: Manuel Garcia; and
three sisters: Ambrosia Luna, Juanita Garcia, and Leonor Baker.
Memorial Services
will be privately held at a later date.

Clitus Craig
Thompson passed away Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Winkler County
Memorial Hospital. He
was born in Kermit November 26, 1960 to Bobby Thompson and Virginia
(Keedle) Thompson. He
graduated from Kermit High School in 1979 and went to Midland
College for a year where he played.
He worked for Baker Tools for a couple of years before going
to work for Northern Natural Gas. He had been employed with Northern for more than twenty-five
years.
Clitus
was a loving son, brother, and father.
His sons were his life.
He devoted all of his free time to them, coaching baseball
and basketball, and encouraging them in their dirt bike racing.
He was honored with a 25-year plaque for outstanding
community service in coaching.
He was a well- respected member of our community; a beloved
coach, a good coworker and a great friend.
He
leaves behind his two boys: Todd
Thompson and Taylor Thompson, both of Kermit; his parents:
Bobby and Virginia Thompson of Kermit; his grandmother:
Evelyn Keedle of Kermit; two sisters:
Donna Neatherlin and husband Tex of Colorado City, TX and
Julie Peeler and husband Scott of Carlsbad, NM; two nieces:
Brandi Michael of Colorado City and Linda Peeler of Carlsbad;
one nephew: Gavin
Peeler of Carlsbad; one grand-niece:
Madison Anderson of Colorado City; uncle: Ed Thompson of
Kermit and numerous cousins.
He
was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and maternal
grandfather.
Graveside
services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at Kermit Cemetery
led by Bro. Davy Smith.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Arnold, Joey Green, Ernie Edwards,
Levis Awbrey, Ronnie Flowers, and Denny McCombs.

Faustino Flores,
age 87, of Kermit passed from this life on Friday, June 27, 2008 at
his residence. He was born, January 2, 1921 to Melquiades and
Josefa (Alvidres) Flores in Lajitas, Chihuahua, Mexico. Faustino
married Belia (Rodriguez) Flores on March 10, 1943 in Manuel
Benavides, MX., and they celebrated 65 years together.
Faustino is
survived by his wife: Belia Flores of Kermit; four sons: Jose A.
Flores of Jal, NM., Armando R. Flores and wife Maria of Sheffield,
TX., Dulces R. Flores and wife Rose Ann of Slayton, TX., Hector
Antonio Flores and wife Guadalupe of Ojinaga, MX.; three
daughters: Andrea F. Palma and husband Christino of Sheffield, TX.,
Victoria F. Prieto and husband Adan of Kermit, TX., Luzelena F.
Zarate of McCamey, TX.; forty-four grandchildren; forty-five
great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding Faustino
in death were his parents: Melquiades and Josefa Florez; two sons:
Domingo and Faustino Flores; two daughters: Ermina Flores de Suvia
and Lorenza Socorro Flores.
Rosary will be
said, Sunday, 7:00 pm at Family Services Funeral Chapel. Mass of
Christian Burial will be Monday, 10:00 am, at St. Joseph Catholic
Church in Kermit celebrant will be Father Rudy Lacerna. Interment
will follow at Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers include: Joe Florez,

Jose Omar Leyva
Quiroz, age 24, passed from this life on Friday, July 11, 2008 in
Ojinaga, Mexico. He was born, December 9, 1983 to Gricelda Leyva
Quiroz and Fernando Enriquez in Ojinaga, Mexico. Omar married
Gladisela (Polanco) Leyva on July 28, 2007 in Presidio, TX. Omar
enjoyed working with his hands and being around horses. He worked
in the farming and ranching industry.
Omar is survived
by his wife: Gladisela Leyva of Kermit; one son: Armando Leyva of
Casas Grandes, MX; his father: Fernando Enriquez of Midland, TX;
two brothers: Edilberto Leyva and wife Sandra of Sanger, TX and
Samuel Leyva and wife Itzel Cisneros of Midland, TX; one sister:
Elizabeth Padilla and husband George of Denton, TX.
Preceding Omar in
death was his mother: Gricelda Leyva Quiroz.
Rosary was said,
7:00 pm, Monday, July 14, 2008 at Family Services Funeral Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial was 2:00 pm, Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at St.
Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit celebrant was Father John Lucido.
Interment followed at Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers included: Jorge
Padilla, Edilberto Leyva, Samuel Leyva, Basillo Quiroz, Jesus Manuel
Leyva and Lenin Polanco. Services were entrusted to Family Services
Funeral Parlor.

Wanda Myrl Cone,
age 84, of Kermit passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Hospice
House in Odessa, TX. She was born on Wednesday, April 2, 1924 in
Olney, Texas, to Estel Henry and Allie Mae (Williams) Wade. She
married Milton “Pinky” Judson Cone on June 9, 1942 in Wichita Falls,
TX and he preceded her in death in October of 1989. Wanda was a
business woman. She co-owned and managed Cone’s Jewelers in
Monahans and Crane with her husband. She continued with the
business after her husband’s death and eventually celebrated 50
years in business finally retiring in 2004. She was a devoted wife
and mother. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed keeping her
great grandchildren. She was a devoted and active member of the
Southside Baptist Church.
Mrs. Cone is
survived by her daughter: Donna Heiser and husband of Kermit, Texas;
two brothers: R.C. Wade and wife Christine of Olney, TX and Jim
Wade and wife Linda of Olney, TX; one sister: Fayedell Dixon of
Olney, TX; five grandchildren: Byron Heiser and wife April, Brandon
Heiser and wife Sherry, Brantley Heiser and wife Amanda, Tara
Vansteenburgh and husband David, and Krista Brunson and husband
Jonathan; eleven great-grandchildren: Brittany, Hunter, Hope ,
Camryn, Braden, Jake, Jackson, Jacobe, Kaden, Brinley, and Kasen.
She was preceded in
death by her husband: Milton “Pinky” Cone; her parents Estel Henry
and Allie Mae Wade; her son: Darrell; and three sisters: Reba
Robertson, Joyce Bennett, and Alta Dunagan.
Visitation will be
from 8am to 8 pm Thursday and Friday, July 17 and 18, at Family
Services Funeral Parlor in Kermit. Funeral Services will be 2:00
p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2008, at Southside Baptist Church in
Monahans with Brother Craig Rhoton officiating. Interment will
follow at the Monahans Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Byron Heiser,
Brandon Heiser, Brantley Heiser, Jonathan Brunson, David
Vansteenburgh, and John Hudson. Services are entrusted to Family
Services Funeral Parlor. Memorial may be sent to Southside Baptist
Church 1400 S. Alice Ave Monahans, TX 79759. |
