Billie Laverne Mallow
|
Billie
Laverne
Mallow, long time resident of Kermit, entered into rest Friday, May 20,
2005 at
her residence. Billie was one of twelve children born to the late
William and
Essie Opal (Wheeler) Thompson. She was born Saturday, April 16, 1932,
in Depew,
Creek County, Oklahoma.
Billie married
Clarence "Jake" Raymond Mallow on November 13, 1948 in Monahans. They
settled in Kermit where they raised three children. Jake preceded her
in death
on September 08, 1987.
Billie retired as a
store clerk. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 6284.
She
enjoyed taking care of her elderly friends. Homemaking was her life.
She loved
gardening and spoiling the grand kids.
Those left to cherish
her love and memories are two Sons: Raymond Mallow of Kermit, and Jake
Raymond
Mallow of Fort Worth; one Daughter: Sandra Porter of Cleveland, Texas;
one
Brother: Carl Thompson of Blackwell, Oklahoma; two Sisters: Vera
McClelland of
Ponca City, Oklahoma and Jewel Brewer of Bristow, Oklahoma. She also
leaves
behind four Grandchildren: Donnie, Holly, Kirk and Jason and four
Great-Grandchildren: Dillan, Ashley, Raylee and Conner.
She was also preceded
in death by four brothers, Johnny, Ray, Ovie and Evert Thompson and
four
sisters, Eva Vender, Louise Rice, Pauline Wright and Ellen Tinsley.
Funeral Services are
scheduled for 2:00 pm, Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at Family Services Funeral
Parlor
with Brother Danny Fitzpatrick officiating. Interment will follow at
Kermit
Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Morgan
Porter, Pat Denny, Jack Rice, Allan Haley, Scott Wright and Mike
Wright.
Honorary Pallbearer will be Donnie Tankersley.
In lieu of flowers,
memorials may be made to Home Hospice 903 N Sam Houston Odessa, TX.
Arrangements are
entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

El Señor Apolonio
Ortiz, residente de Kermit, falleció el día 28 de mayo
2005, en su residencia.
Nació el
día 10 de Abril de 1925 en el Mulato, México. Sus
padres ya fallecidos fueron. El Sr. Apolonio Ortiz y la Sra. Isidra
Hernandez
Ortiz.y Apolonio Ortiz se unió en matrimonio con la Sra. Esiquia
Aranda en el
Mulato, México en 1948, y juntos procrearon seis hijos. Tuvieron
57 años de
feliz matrimonio. Durante su vida en el
Mulato, Apolonio fue agricultor y
ranchero. En 1970, el y su familia viajaron para Estados Unidos
haciendo así de
Kermit su lugar de residencia.
Durante su estancia en
Kermit, se dedico al trabajo en las plantas, su entretenimiento fue
criar, el
Pinto, chivas/borregas, vacas, y puerco, él disfrutaba de las
reuniones
familiares, especialmente cuando se cocinaba la carne de chivo o
borrego y
asado y sobre todo le encantaba platicar de historias de su vida del
tiempo
pasado. Cuando decidió retirarse de
trabajar, se dedico a ser el guarda espaldas espiá de sus hijos
y yernos para
ver si estaban trabajando, o nada mas ver como estaba todo llevando le
las
nuevas a Esiquia. Toda su familia
extrañará mucho a “Apá” (como cariñosamente
le llamaban todos sus hijos y
nietos.)
Le sobrevivan para
añorar su memoria su esposa, Esiquia Ortiz de Kermit, TX, tres
hijos, Santiago,
Santana, y Jesús Ortiz, todos de Kermit, TX, dos hijas, Angelica
Lopez y Margarita Vasquez de Kermit, TX,

Apolonio
Hernandez Ortiz
Apolonio
Ortiz,
longtime resident of Kermit, passed away Saturday May 28, 2005 at his
residence
in Kermit. He was born Friday April 10, 1925 in Mulato, Chih., Mexico
to the
late Apolonio and Isidra (Hernandez) Ortiz. Apolonio was joined in holy
matrimony to Esiquia Aranda in Mulato in 1948, and together they raised
six
children, and had 57 wonderful years of marriage. While in Mulato,
Apolonio
farmed and ranched. In 1970 he moved his family to Texas settling in
Kermit. He
took to working in oil field construction, but still made time to raise
a pig,
cow, goats/lamb, and his trusty sidekick “Pinto”. He loved family
gatherings
eating carne de Borrego, asado, and Barbacoa, and telling stories of
old times.
Upon retiring, along with caring for his animals, he became the family
“spy/lookout”, always riding around checking on his sons and
sons-in-law’ to
see if they were working , or just what was going on. He would then
report it
all back to Esiquia, every last detail! “Apa”
will be missed by many.

left to cherish
his love and memories are his wife Esiquia Ortiz of Kermit, 3 sons:
Santiago,
Santana, and Jesus Ortiz all of Kermit, 2 daughters: Angelica Lopez and
Margarita Vasquez both of Kermit, 3 brothers: Felix Ortiz of Andrews,
Jose
Ortiz of Kermit, and Martin Ortiz of Ojinaga, Mexico, 2 sisters: Paula
Aguilar
of Ojinaga, and Sara Montoya of Presidio, 17 grandchildren, and 13
great-grandchildren.
“Apa”
was preceded in
death by 1 son - Juan de Dios Ortiz, 1 grand-daughter- Erica Lee Ortiz
Quiroz,
and 1 brother-Isabel Ortiz.
Pallbearers
were

Monday May 30, 2005 at Family Services Funeral Chapel and Mass of

Burial was 2 pm Tuesday May 31, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with
Fr.
Rudy Lacerna officiating. Interment followed at Kermit Cemetery. Arrangements were
entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor of Kermit.

Wanda Lee Holsey, age
76, of Kermit, departed this life Thursday, June 9, 2005 at Medical
Center
Hospital in Odessa. She was born
Monday, October 1, 1928, in Merkel, Taylor County, Texas to the late
Johnny
Willis and Ethel Mae (Coats) Barbee.
Wanda
married J P
Holsey on September 13, 1944 in Merkel, Texas. During that year they
moved to
Jal, New Mexico where J P began his career with El Paso Natural Gas
Company.
After his retirement from EPNG in 1982, J P and Wanda moved to Red
Bluff Lake.
In 1993, they moved to Kermit. He preceded her in death on January 25,
2004.
A
homemaker, Wanda
enjoyed spending time with her family and friends especially her
grandchildren. She was a member of the
American Legion Aux. Post # 339.
Those
left to cherish
her love and memories are one Daughter: Gail Tidwell of Kermit; two
Sons:
Ronnie Holsey and wife, Jan, of Andrews and Billy Holsey and wife, Pam,
of Fort
Worth; two Brothers: Charles Barbee and Johnny Darrell Barbee both of
Abilene;
two Sisters: Thelma Urquhart and Ouida Head both of Abilene; five
Grandchildren: Stephanie Lynch, Jason Holsey, Amy Tidwell, Brandi Lewis
and
Stephen Tidwell; and five Great-Grandchildren: Hunter and Sydney Lynch,
Alyssa
and Tyler Lewis and Angie Holsey.
Graveside
services
are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Monday, June 13, 2005 at Kermit Cemetery
with
Brother Dudley Mullins officiating.

Marvin Albert Wilson,
age 87, a longtime resident of Kermit, Texas, went to be with his Lord,
Friday,
June 24, 2005, at Regency Hospital in Odessa, Texas.
Marvin
was born
September 06, 1917, in Tucana, Georgia, to the late Walter and Inez
(Profit)
Wilson. He was a Veteran, having served
3 years in the United States Army, and 4 years in the United States
Navy.
Marvin
was a member
of the Eastside Church of Christ. He
was a man of hard work and strong faith. Marvin
loved the outdoors and fishing; he could tell
fishing stories
with the best of them.
Those
left to cherish
Marvin's love and memories are his two sons - Ron Wilson of Homestead,
FL, and
Wayne Wilson of Lagrange, GA; two daughters - Shirley Woodall of
Dadeville, AL,
and Diane Garrett of Opelika, AL. He is
also survived by (13) Thirteen Grandchildren and (26) Great
Grandchildren.
Marvin
is preceded in
death by his beloved wife - Eva Mae Wilson and one daughter - Elizabeth
Wilson.
Services
will be held
at 10:00 am, Monday, June 27, 2005, at Family Services Funeral Chapel
in
Kermit, TX; with Brother Monty Huffman officiating.
Pallbearers

Concepcion M. “Chon”
Tavarez, long time resident of Kermit, passed away Monday, July 04,
2005 at
Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. He was born Friday, September 07,
1934, in
Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico to the late Federico M. and
Cresencia (Melindez) Tabarez. He was 70.
He
leaves behind one
Brother: Federico Tavarez and wife, Francisca, of Wink and one Sister:
Merce
Marin and husband, Vicente, of Odessa.
Funeral

scheduled for 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 06, 2005 at Family Services

| Shirley Kay Pirtle Smith
|
Shirley Pirtle Smith,
age 51, of Kermit departed this life on Saturday, July 9, 2005 at
Medical
Center Hospital in Odessa. Shirley was
born to the late George and Laverne (Fine) Rust in Hobbs, NM on
Thursday, June 24,
1954. She was a graduate of Jal High School and attended beauty school
in
Carlsbad, NM. Shirley married Preston
Smith on August 9, 1999 in Kermit.
She
is forever loved;
a homemaker, mother, and friend. Shirley
had previously worked as general manager of
Country Rentals. She took pride in her
work and was a
meticulous housekeeper. She was a
strong-willed person who always gave 110% in everything she did. Shirley was a very loyal woman; devoted to
God, family, and her country. She was a
strong Christian woman; a member of the Pentecostal church. She was a very loving mother and
grandmother. She was deeply patriotic
and loved red, white, and blue. Shirley
was an avid collector and owned a priceless bell collection. She was an outgoing and giving person who
never met a stranger.

her memory are her husband, Preston Smith of Kermit; her loving first
husband
of 27 years, Don Pirtle, Jr. of Kermit; two sons: Jason Pirtle of
Oklahoma
City, OK and Preston “Trey” Smith III of Kermit; three daughters:
Donnetta
Pirtle of Marlin, TX, Melissa Smith and Timber Smith of Kermit, two
brothers:
Earnie Rust of Giddings, TX and Frank Rust of Carlsbad, NM; three
grandchildren: Kimberly, Alena, and Jaden and numerous nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death
by her parents,
George and Laverne Rust; her grandparents; and her sister, Patsy Rust
Burdette
who passed away in 1984.

be held at Family Services Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, July 13 at 2:00
PM with
Brother Leo Davis officiating. Interment
will follow at Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers

Williams, Sr |
M. V. Williams, Sr.
age 80, Kermit resident since 1950, entered into rest Sunday, July 10,
2005 at
his residence. M.V. entered this life
on Monday, November 3, 1924, in Cameron, TX. He was born to the late
Ruben and
Mamie (Oages) Williams. Prior to moving
to Kermit, M.V. lived in Lamesa, TX where he met and married his
beloved wife,
Johnnie Mae (Butler) Williams.
M.V.
was a faithful
member of the Church of God in Christ and was a deacon in the church.
He was a
retired truck driver, working for 30 years for Dowell Chemical. He was a loving husband, father, and
grandfather who enjoyed getting together with his family.
In his spare time, he
enjoyed hunting and a game of dominoes. M.V.
was a friendly and giving person, always ready
to lend a hand.
He
will be sorely
missed by his wife of 57 years, Johnnie Mae Williams of Kermit, and his
children and grandchildren. M.V. and
Johnnie Mae raised six children; three sons: Melvin Williams, Jr. of
Dallas,
Eugene Williams of Rosharon, TX, and Earl Williams of Kermit; and three
daughters: Shirley Gabriel of Dallas, TX, Eula Woodberry of Dallas, TX
and
Phebia Williams of Lewisville, TX. They
bore him 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brother-Cleveland
Williams of Odessa,
TX and four sisters: Ruby Hubbard of Houston, TX, Louise Richardson of
Odessa,
TX, Ruby Sanders of Odessa, TX, and Elnora Robinson of Midland, TX.
He
was preceded in
death by his parents and three brothers.
Services
will be held
at First United Methodist Church on Friday, July 15, 2005 at 2:00 pm. Officiates at the service will include Rev.
A.L. Jackson, Rev. Herbert Crisp, and Rev. Norman Lewis.
Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Henry Holguin, age
52, passed away Monday, July 11, 2005 at Hospice House in Odessa. He
was born
Sunday, September 07, 1952 in Lamesa, Dawson County, Texas to Augustine
Sifuentes and Helen Castillo.
Henry
was a
construction worker. He enjoyed
fishing, hunting, and a good game of chess. He
was also a good pool player. He was a hard
worker, who liked spending free time
with his family and
having cookouts.
Those

Henry’s passing include his mother, Helen Castillo of Kermit; his
adoptive
father, Leroy Hoguin of Tulare, CA; his father, Augustine Sifuentes of
Dallas;
his grandfather, Andres Castillo of Kermit; his son, Henry Holguin, Jr
of
Alamogordo; his daughter, Sherry Gonzalez and husband Manuel of
Alamogordo, NM;
his brothers, Danny Holguin and wife Vera of Kermit, and Ruben Holguin
of
Stockton, CA; his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Holguin of Tulare, CA; his
sisters
Mary Lee Nickles and husband Albert of Tulare, CA, Mary Helen Pando and
husband
Manuel of Kermit, and Alice Cesena and husband Anthony of Tulare, CA,
five
grandchildren: London, Albert, Lincoln, Bailey, and John Henry; and
numerous
nieces and nephews.
Henry
was preceded in
death by one brother, Leroy Holguin.

for Mr. Holguin at the Family Services Funeral Chapel on Thursday, July
14,
2005 at 2:00 pm. Pallbearers will be

Emma Gloria Morales
|
Emma Gloria Morales,
63, of Kermit entered into rest Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at Medical
Center
Hospital in Odessa. Emma was born
Saturday, May 30, 1942, in Sierra Blanca, TX to Ramon Aragon and
Loretto
Hernandez Aragon. She grew up in Sierra
Blanca, where she met and married her loving husband, Juan Morales. They wed in January of 1960. They celebrated
45 wonderful years of marriage earlier this year.
Emma
attended Templo
Alpha Y Omega. She was a pastor’s wife;
very active in the church. She was also
a treasurer for the church. Her life’s
work was to provide a loving and supportive home for her husband and
children.
Mrs.
Morales leaves
behind to cherish her memory her husband, Juan Morales, six children,
ten
brothers and sisters, twenty-two grandchildren, and five
great-grandchildren. Juan and Emma’s
children are Ernesto A. Morales of Lovington, NM, Santiago A. Morales
of Fort
Sill, OK, Salvador A. Morales of Sierra Blanca, TX, Jaime Morales of
Kermit,
Rosario M. Bond of Kermit, and Consuelo M. Lopez of Kermit. Her
siblings
include Francisco Granado of Pecos, TX, Arnulfo Granado of Pecos, TX,
Oscar
Granado of Big Spring, TX, Ramon Hernandez of Hobbs, NM, Charles Aragon
of El
Paso, TX, Jessie Crawford of El Paso, TX, Consuelo Luedike of Rapid
City, S.D.,
Margaret Ortega of El Paso, TX, Ruthie Romero of El Paso, TX, and
Martha
Aragon-Garcia of El Paso, TX. Their beloved grandchildren are Jennifer

at Kermit
