| Jack David Akin, Sr.
|
Jack David Akin, Sr.,
long time resident of Kermit, went to be with his Lord Tuesday,
September 28,
2004. He entered this life Wednesday, November 5, 1924, in Texarkana,
Bowie
County, Texas to the late James Fussel and Lula Leah (Johnson) Akin. He
was 79
and a member of the Eastside Church of Christ.
A
veteran of World
War II, Jack was inducted into the US Army on May 27, 1943 at Tyler,
Texas. He
served as a Military Policeman and expert Rifleman until his Honorable
Discharge on April 25, 1946 in Camp Chaffee, Arkansas.
Jack
moved to Kermit
in 1947 where he married Mittie M. Pursell on January 22, 1949. He
started work
with Bass Enterprises before transferring to Sid Richardson Carbon Gas,
where
he retired after 28 ½ years of service.
He leaves behind his
wife, Mittie Akin of Kermit, three Daughters, Cheryl, and husband, Mike
Bandel
of Schertz, Texas, Cathy, and husband, Jim Kapka of Hereford, Texas and
Janice,
and husband, Eddie Johnson of Odessa, Texas; eight grandchildren and
seven
great-grandchilren
His
parents James
Fussel and Lula Leah Akin, one Son, Rusty Akin, two Brothers, Colin and
Jim
Akin and five Sisters, Thadna Jones, Inez Rhodes, Mary Cranford, Faye
Williams
and Jean Cranford preceded him in death.
Funeral
Services are
scheduled for 10:30 am, Saturday, October 2, 2004 at Eastside Church of
Christ
with Brothers Monty Huffman and Clydel Chapman officiating. Interment
will
follow at Kermit Cemetery.
Pallbearers
are Shane
Kapka, James Kapka, Philip Bandel, Russell Bandel, Larry McNew and
Charles
Ainsworth. Honorary Pallbearers are Gene Paschall, Joe Slaughter, Edwin
Ditto,
Gerald Hudson, Willie Bryant and Ricky Kidd.

Mr. Pilar H Juarez,
age 89 went to be with his Lord, Friday, October 01, 2004 at his
residence in
Kermit, Texas. Mr. Juarez entered this
life on Monday, October 12, 1914 being born to the late Inez and Maria
(Hernandez)
Juarez in Mulato, Chihuahua, Mexico.
Pilar
and Enedina
Lujan entered into the vows of matrimony in March of 1937 in Mulato,
Chihuahua,
Mexico. They brought eight beautiful
children into the world during their union of marriage, three sons and
five daughters. Pilar has thirty one
grandchildren and fifty
two great grandchildren. He was a
loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Pilar was indeed a family man and enjoyed
spending time with his grand children and family.
Pilar
was a strong
Christian man who attended St. Joseph Catholic Church.
He placed his faith in the Lord along with
the hard work of being a Farmer to provide for his family.
Those
left behind to
cherish Pilars’ love and memories are his loving wife Enedina Juarez of
Kermit,
TX. Two Sons – Jose Juarez and Antonio
Juarez both of Kermit. Four Daughters –
Cruz Elia Garcia, Emma Polanco and Rosa Gardea all of Kermit, and Flora
Luna of
Odessa, TX. Two Brothers – Inez Juarez
and Epifanio Juarez both of Ojinaga, Mexico.
He
is preceded in
death by: One Son, Victor Juarez; One
Daughter, Josefina Rodriguez; Three Brothers: Pedro
Juarez, Antonio Juarez and Celestino Juarez;
Three Sisters, Pilar
Alvarado, Lucia Montoya and Rumalda Juarez.
Rosary
for Mr. Juarez
is Sunday, 7:00 pm, October 03, 2004 at Family Services Funeral Chapel
in
Kermit, TX. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday, 10:00 am,
October
04, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit with Father Rudy
Lacerna
officiating. Interment will follow at
Kermit Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Arnaldo Juárez,
Adrián Juárez, Saul García, Lenin Polanco, Adiel
Rodríguez and Ramón García.
Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor
of Kermit.

Nadine E. Johnson, age
69, passed away Friday, October 08, 2004 in Kermit, TX. She was born
Saturday, April 13, 1935 in Corinth, Alcorn County, Mississippi. She
was a member of the Church of God.
She is survived by one son, David Johnson of Kermit, one daughter,
Debbie Moon and husband, Michael, of Kermit, one sister, Carolyn Rooks
of Valiant, OK and one grandchild, Angela Hatley.

Eulas Wayne "Blue" Richardson
|
Eulas Wayne
Richardson, age 78 went to be with his Lord, Saturday, October 09, 2004
at his
residence in Kermit, Texas. He was
born Saturday, November 14, 1925 in Henryetta, Okmulgee County,
Oklahoma to the
late Clarence and Ada Lee Richardson.
Wayne
was a veteran
of World War II; he entered the United States Navy in April of 1943,
serving
his country until 1947. At that time he
remained to serve in the US Navy Reserve until November 1954. Wayne moved to Kermit in 1951. In 1962 he purchased Richardson Shamrock
Service Station, he was owner and operator until his retirement in 1992.
Wayne
was a member of
Grace Temple Baptist Church. He was a
member of VFW Post # 6284, American Legion Post # 339, and Kermit Lodge
# 1258
AF & AM. Wayne was a very loving
and caring father and grandfather. He
loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He was a friend to all and will be greatly
missed.
Those
left to
treasure Wayne’s love and memories are his daughter, Terri Crow of
Kermit,
TX. Five sons: Roy
Richardson of Kermit; Ismael Ortega, Jr
of Ft. Worth, TX; Scott Richardson of Jupiter, FL; Mike Ortega of
Bedford, TX,
and Joel Ortega of Merced, CA. His love
will carry on through his six children and 13 grandchildren.
Wayne
was preceded in
death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
Services
will be held
at Family Services Funeral Chapel, Saturday, October 16, 2004 at 10:00
AM with
Rev. Henry Freund officiating. Interment
to follow at Kermit Cemetery with military
honors.
In
lieu of flowers,
the family requests Memorials be made to VFW Post #6284 in Kermit. Arrangements are
entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor of Kermit, Texas.

Sherry
Lynn Murray,
age 53, of Kermit, Texas, went to be with her Lord, Saturday, October
09, 2004
in Mount Vernon, Missouri. Sherry had
been a resident of Kermit since 1999, having moved here from Bryan,
Texas. She was born Friday, December 08,
1950 in
Lynnwood, California to the late Albert and Mildred Cohen.
Sherry and Thomas
(Tom) Murray were united in holy matrimony, May 31, 1967 in Las Vegas,
Nevada. During their union, Sherry and
Tom brought four beautiful children into the world, three daughters and
a
son. She was a loving and caring wife,
mother and grandmother. She loved
spending time with her children and grandchildren and was very proud of
each
and every one.
Sherry was a Licensed
Vocational Nurse by trade; she also assisted her husband Tom, with the
family
business of transporting vehicles.
Sherry had a love for
motorcycles and had been riding most her life. In
2003, she joined the women’s motorcycle
organization, Women On
Wheels. She was a founding member and
officer of the Women On Wheels Iron Dragons Chapter.
No matter the weather, or how far, Sherry was ready
to ride. She was a friend to many, and
those
treasured friends, will miss her tremendously. She
was a special and beautiful lady.

Sherry’s love and memories are her husband, Tom Murray of Kermit; one
Son:
Thomas Wayne and wife, Crystal, of Burnet, TX; three Daughters: Susan
and
husband, David Willhelm, of Wink, TX; Shana and husband, Robert Carman,
of
Ramstein AFB, Germany; Stacy and husband, Thomas St. John of Ft. Hood,
TX; one
Brother: Michael Cohen of College Station, TX; 10 Grandchildren: Kira
and Kayla
Willhelm of Wink, TX; Thomas, Heather and Christopher Carman of
Ramstein AFB,
Germany; Ashley, Amber and Kelly St John of Ft Hood, TX and Madison and
Raygen
Murray of Burnet, TX. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.
Her parents and one
brother, Marc O’Day, precede her in death.
Honorary Pallbearers
will be members of The Iron Dragons Chapter of Women On Wheels.

scheduled for 10:00 am, Thursday, October 14, 2004 at Family Services
Funeral
Chapel in Kermit, with Rev. Ernest Brown officiating. Arrangements are
entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor of Kermit, Texas.

Deaton |
Louie
Leville "Strawberry"
Deaton, age 95, passed away on October 11, 2004 in Brownsville, Texas
after a
short illness. He was born March 19,
1909 in Chicota, Lamar County, Texas to John Thomas and Mattie Wynn
Beason
Deaton.
Mr. Deaton was
baptized in Chicota in 1921. He married
Jenny Florence Adcock on March 31, 1934. The
Deatons moved to the west Texas town of Kermit
in 1934 where he was
employed by various petroleum companies until his retirement from Union
Oil in
1974. As a resident in Kermit,
Strawberry was an active member of his community and served as a city
councilman for two terms. He was also a
charter member of the Kermit Volunteer Fire Department and served
actively for
more than forty years.
After retirement
Strawberry lived and worked in Aspermont, Texas until the age of eighty
when he
moved to Brownsville to reside with his son Jon Grady and wife Michele
(Sanchez).
Strawberry was
preceded in death by his wife and a son, Jim Tom. He
is survived by a daughter, Leta Gay and son-in-law Norman G.
Roden of Salado, Texas; his son, Jon Grady and wife Michele of
Brownsville;
four grandchildren; Deaton Blundell Roden, Jenny Georgette Bennett,
Sean Grady
Deaton, Dana Blake Deaton and eight great grandchildren; Logan Leville
Bennett,
Austin Thompson Roden, Destin Drake Bennett, Allison Gayle Roden,
Augustus
Charles Roden, Sydney Shay Bennett, Mia Anastasia and Mirabella Arianna
Deaton.
Gravesite services
will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 14, 2004 at Kermit Cemetery in
Kermit, Texas. Arrangements are
entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor of Kermit.

Cirilo
Bernal Flores,
age 79, Kermit, entered into rest Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at his
residence.
He was born Monday, February 9, 1925, in Camargo Chihuahua, Mexico, to
the late
Candelario and Valentina (Bernal) Flores. He was a member of the
Apostolic
Assembly Church.
Cirilo married Elvira
Rodriguez on March 16, 1946 in Guadalupe, Chihuahua, Mexico. They moved
to
Kermit in 2001, having moved here from Jal, New Mexico.
He was a retired heavy equipment operator in
the construction business.
Those left to cherish
his love and memories are his wife, Elvira Flores of Kermit; two Sons:
Israel
Flores of Porvenir, Chihuahua, Mexico and Porfirio Flores of Van Horn,
Texas;
eight Daughters: Yolanda Lopez of Jal, NM, Velia Martinez of Wink,
Delia Maese
of Chico, Texas, Frances Salazar of Van Horn, Texas, Juana Valdez of
Porveir,
Chihuahua, Mexico, Leticia Briones, Lidia Barraza, and Alma Estrada all
of
Kermit; one Sister: Guadalupe Perez; 36 Grandchildren and 37
Great-Grandchildren.
Prayer Service is
scheduled for 7:00 PM at Family Services Funeral Chapel on Thursday,
October
14, 2004. Funeral Services will be held at Family Services Funeral
Chapel on
Friday October 15, 2004 at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Kermit
Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Andy
Lujan, Jose Maese, Luis Medrano, Raymon Lopez, Alberto Muñoz and
Armanda
Herrera.
The family would like
to give special Thanks to Lulu Williams and Keri Carter, Home Hospice
Nurses.

Janice Blankenship,
age 61, of Wink, departed this life Thursday, October 14, 2004 at
Winkler
County Memorial Hospital in Kermit. She was born Monday, June 14, 1943,
in
Highland Park, Wayne County, Michigan to the late Donald and Georgia
(Kuemerle)
Dinger.
A
member of the
Eastside Church of Christ, Janice had been a resident of Kermit for 23
years
having moved to Wink in 2002.
Janice
loved hanging
out with Norma and Gail, her "Golden Girls" and traveling. She
enjoyed helping people and just having fun all the time. And in her
quiet
moments she played on the computer.
She
leaves behind
four Sons: Robin Blankenship and Darcile, of Wink, Roger Blankenship
and Kevin
Blankenship and wife, Joy all of of Yulee, Florida and Raymond
Blankenship and
wife, Betty, of Kermit; one Daughter: Rhonda Brewster and husband, Don,
of
Wink; one Sister: Jean Hensley of Marshall, N.C. and twelve
grandchildren and
lots of nieces and nephews.
Janice
was also
preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Miller; one sister, Shirley
Schultz
and three Grand sons, Robert Blankenship, Jason Brewster and Donnie
Miller.
Funeral
Service is
scheduled for 2:00 PM, Monday, October 18, 2004 at Eastside Church of
Christ in
Kermit with Mr Monty Huffman officiating. Interment will follow at
Kermit
Cemetery.

Roger Blankenship, Xavier Martinez, Robin Blankenship and Jonathan

Oleta Mae Shifflett,
age 85, previously of Kermit, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2004 at
Crane
Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Crane, Texas. She was born
Saturday, May
24, 1919, in Saint Jo, Montague County, Texas to James Franklin and
Mittie
(Lentz) Blassingame.
Mae
married Lawrence
Bruce (L. B.) “Doc” Shifflett, on December 14, 1934 in Texoma,
Oklahoma. She
and LB settled in Mentone in 1959. After his death on October 29, 1988,
Mae
moved to Kermit where she remained until 1994 before moving to Odessa.
A
loving wife, mother
and grandmother, she leaves behind three sons: Joe Shifflett of
Abilene, Texas,
L B Shifflett and wife, Rita, of Abilene, Texas and Wiley Shifflett of
Texas
City, Texas; one daughter: Mary Franklin and husband, Norman, of
Kermit, Texas;
two sisters: Blanche Harvison of Fort Worth, Texas and Pauline Martin
and
husband, Sam, of Houston, Texas; seven Grandsons: James E Powell,
Johnny
William Murphy, Jr., Terry Allen Lee, Scott Christopher Shifflett, Greg
Shifflett, Ryan Matthew Shifflett, and Damien Shifflett; five
Granddaughters:
Diane Murphy Barrett, Debbie Murphy Decker, Pamela Anne Darnell, Kelly
Amanda
Posey and Samantha Amanda Morrison; 16 Great Grandchildren and 13
Great-Great
Grandchildren.
She
was also preceded
in death by two daughters: Iva Lee Murphy and Birdie Nell Lee; three
brothers:
Bert Blassingame, Neil Blassingame and James Franklin Blassingame, Jr;
and two
sisters: Oma McCubbin and Lacie Jane Shifflett.
Graveside
Service is
scheduled for 4:00 PM at Kermit Cemetery on Tuesday, October 19, 2004. Pallbearers are Bill
Murphy, Scott Shifflett, Greg Shifflett, Damien Shifflett, Terry Lee,
Ryan
Shifflett. Honorary Pallbearers are Todd Thompson, Taylor Thompson.
In

Faustina A. Gonzales,
92, longtime resident of Wink, entered into rest Tuesday, October 19,
2004 at
Hospice Midland Inpatient Unit in Midland Memorial Hospital. She was
born on
Thursday, February 15, 1912, in El Rancho Chapulin, Chihuahua, Mexico
to the
late Emilio and Catarina Enriquez Armendaris. She was a member of St
Thomas
Catholic Church in Kermit.
She
married Federico
Gonzales on December 19, 1931 in Pecos. They moved to Monahans for a
short time
before settling in Wink in 1944. Faustina and her husband, Federico,
were
founding members of the St Thomas Catholic Church. She was a member of
the Wink
Home Demonstration and the St Thomas Altar Society. Faustina was also a
member
of Our Lady of the Rosary Makers and Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
Those left behind to
cherish her love and memories are two Sons: Federico Gonzales, and
wife, Maria,
of San Antonio, Texas and Robert Gonzales and wife, Naomi, of Coleman,
Texas; two Daughters: Effie Gonzales of
Wink and Maximina Houston and husband, Herb, of Yuma, Arizona; one
Sister:
Margarita Talavera; twelve Grandchildren; numerous Great-Grandchildren;
and two
Great-Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in
death by her loving husband, Federico Gonzales, on May 15, 2001. She
was also
preceded in death by one Son, Roberto Gonzales, five Brothers and six
Sisters
and one Grandson, Christopher Gonzales.
Rosary is scheduled
for 7:00 pm, Friday, October 22, 2004, at Family Services Funeral
Chapel. Mass
of Christian Burial is scheduled for 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 23,
2004, at St
Thomas Catholic Church with Father John Lucido as Celebrant. Interment
will
follow at Kermit Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Terry
Gonzales, Bobby Gonzales, Brandon Blankenship, Mike Grey, Joshua
Geeslin and
Anastacio Reyes. Honorary Pallbearers are Tom Heary, Roy Peden,
Sherrell Glenn,
Herb Houston, Edward René Fette and Dean Mark Fette. Arrangements are
entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor of Kermit.
