"AC" Morton |
Allen Calvin
"AC" Morton, age 87, of Wink, went to be with his Lord on Saturday,
March 27, 2004 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. He was born
Sunday,
November 5, 1916, in Eastland, TX to the late Tobe and Nevada (Perkins)
Morton..
A
lifelong resident
of Wink, AC was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a great
enthusiast
of the Wink Athletics and a supporter of the Winkler County 4-H Club.
He was
also a past member of the Odd Fellows. He married Lova Genee Newell in
Easltand, Texas on December 05, 1936.
Just
a 'plain ole
cowboy', ranching was AC's life and he loved telling stories of his
early day
life to family, friends and especially his grandchildren. A pastime for
him was
to hook his horse up to his bright red buggy and riding in parades.
Giving his
grandkids a ride was his pride and joy.
A
loving husband,
father and friend, he leaves behind his wife: Genee Morton of Wink,
Texas;
Three Sons: Allen O Morton and wife, Carol, of Stockton, Mo., Toby
Morton, and
wife, Dianne, of Snyder, Texas, Raleigh Morton of Wink, Texas; One
Daughter:
Helen Voyles, and husband, Billy, of Wink, Texas; Two Sisters: Folia
Mae
Jarrett and Celia Ray Beck both of Eastland, Texas; Twelve
Grandchildren,
Fourteen Great-Grandchildren and One Great-Great Grandchild.
He
was preceded in
death by his parents, Tobe and Nevada Morton, One brother: Raleigh O
Morton,
Two sisters: Gladys Hensley and Lila Lena Graham and One Grandson:
Brett Morton.
Funeral
Service is
scheduled for 2:00 pm, Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at First Baptist Church
in Wink
with Pastor Gary Redwine officiating. Interment will follow at Kermit
Cemetery.

are his
grandchildren Billy Voyles, Jr., Jackie Voyles, Allen Calvin Morton,
Jimmy
Morton, Scotty Morton, Bart Morton and Heath Morton.

Jack Whittington, age
69, of Kermit, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 2, 2004 at
Medical
Center Hospital in Odessa. He was born
March 5, 1935 in Idabel, OK to the late Floy Parker and Marvin
Whittington.
Jack
was a retired Drilling
Consultant and had worked in the oilfield all his life. He had been a
resident
of Kermit for 40 years, having moved here from Lovington, NM in 1964. He married Wanda L. Jones April 10, 1974 in
Lovington, NM. In just a few short
days, they would have celebrated their 30-year anniversary.
Being
born in
Oklahoma, Jack was a quiet country boy. He
was a man of few words, but his words carried a
long way. He loved his family and spending
time with
his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending
time outdoors, fishing, hunting and gardening.
Jack is survived by his
wife: Wanda Whittington of Kermit; (1) One
son, Cliff Whittington and
wife Nan of Roswell, NM; (4) Four daughters: Jacque
Caudle and husband Carl of Jal, NM; Janice
Franco of Lockhart,
TX; Tricia Birkla and husband Shane of Odessa; and Kassie Whittington
of
Kermit. He is also survived by (4) Four
brothers: Kennon, George, and Charlie Whittington, and Tim Parker, all
of
Idabel, OK; (1) One sister: Sue
Whittington of Poteau, OK. He was the
proud grandfather of (9) Nine grandchildren: Kristi, Stephanie, Corey,
Danial,
Alanna, Cody, Frankie, Ashley, and Kiara; (3) Three
great-grandchildren;
Venessa, Darren, and Alyssa.
His
Parents, his Stepfather, Harvey Parker; One
son, Choia Gene Whittington, and one grandson, Jason Whittington,
preceded him
in death.
Graveside
services
are scheduled for 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at Kermit Cemetery
with Brother Allen Speed officiating.
Honorary
pallbearers
will be Jack’s four brothers: Kennon
Whittington, George Whittington, Charlie Whittington, and Tim Parker.
The
family requests
that memorials be made to The American Heart and Lung Association.

"Wes" Wilkins |
Paul Wesley
"Wes" Wilkins, age 28, of Kermit, entered into rest Monday, April 5,
2004 in Pecos, TX. A lifetime resident of Kermit, he was born Tuesday,
November
4, 1975, to James Wesley and Martha Jo (White) Wilkins.
Wes
married Melinda
"Lindy" Marie Myers on December 18, 1997 in Kermit. He was employed
as a Driller for Lariat Services since 2002.
A
hard worker and
good provider for his family, Wes was also an avid fisherman and
enjoyed riding
motorcycles. He was very outgoing and loved to joke and cut up.
Wherever you
saw Wes, you'd see his faithful dog "Rats" by his side. But the love
of his life, were his children, Paul, Chris and Darcey.
Those
left to cherish
his love and memory are his Wife: Melinda Marie Wilkins of Kermit; his
Mother:
Martha Jo Hoge and Step-Father: Ronald M Hoge both of Kermit; two Sons:
Paul
Wesley Wilkins, Jr. and Christopher James Wilkins; one Daughter: Darcey
Wilkins
all of Kermit; four Brothers: Eddie Young of Houston, Texas, John
Tibbetts,
Clyde Tibbetts, and Terry Tibbetts all of Lincoln, Maine.
Wes
was preceded in
death by one son, Terry Joe Wilkins in 1997 and by his father, James
Wesley
Wilkins, in 2002.

Funeral
Chapel with Pastor Eddie Cotton officiating. Interment to follow at
Kermit
Cemetery.

Charles Ernest
Dennis, Sr, age 77, of Wink, departed this life Tuesday, April 6, 2004
at
Memorial Hospital in Kermit. He was
born Tuesday, July 27, 1926, in Madison, Kansas to the late Ernest
Gordon and
Lena Jessie (Holly) Dennis.
A
veteran of the
United States Navy during World War II, he married Shela McCreery on
December
29, 1967 in Kermit. Charles was a great
supporter of the Wink Athletics and ran the clock for the Wink Wildcats
Football
team. He was a retired Fire Marshall
for the Wink Fire Department, a member of Wink Lions Club, Leader for
the Boy
Scouts Of America, and a member of the Wink-Loving I.S.D. School Board. Charles retired from Arco as a Gang Pusher
after 35 years of service.
He
leaves behind his
Wife, Shela Dennis of Wink; six Sons: Randall
Dennis, and Charles Dennis, Jr, both of
Wink, Mike Dennis of
Kermit, Kevin Daniel of Gautier, MS, Kenny Daniel of Wink and Kerry Don
Dennis
of Odessa, Texas; one Daughter: Carol
Harrist of Carthage, Texas; one Brother: George Dennis of Abilene,
Texas; one
Sister: Florene Boury; Fifteen
Grandchildren, Two Great-Grandchildren and Five Great-Great
Grandchildren.
Charles
was preceded
in death by his parents, Ernest and Lena Dennis; one Brother, Wrather
Lewis;
three Sisters, Irene Thomas, Frankie Gamble and Gloria Dennis.
Funeral

held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 10, 2004 at Family Services Funeral
Chapel
with Pastor Joe Mohler officiating. Interment
followed at Kermit Cemetery.

Juanita Carmona
Porras, age 77, of Wink, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at Val
Verde
Regional Medical Center in Del Rio, TX. She was born Sunday, June 20,
1926, in
Anson, Texas to the late Louisa Aliman and Juan Carmona.
Juanita was a resident of
Wink for the past 17 years, having
moved there from Kermit, where she had been a resident for 30 years.
She
retired as a Nurses' Aide from Kermit Healthcare Center where she was
employed
for over 10 years.
Juanita's
favorite
pastime was dancing and never passed up an opportunity to grace the
dance
floor. She loved flowers and enjoyed gardening and was the greatest
cook of
all. But the joys of her life were her grandchildren.
She
leaves behind to
cherish her memory one Son: Rod Porras of Wink; five Daugthers: Grace
Kemp and
husband, Fred, of Wink, Marcy Mongarro and husband, Carson Eads, of
Allen,
Texas, Lupe Garcia and husband, Miguel, of Del Rio, Texas, Juanita
Porras of
Dallas, Texas and Rosa Edmiston of Garland, Texas; one Brother: Simon
Estrada
of Kermit and one Sister: Guillermina Mesa of El Monte, California;
thirteen
Grandchildren: Tamara, Brendon, Tevin, Briana, Norma Jean, LaDonna,
Marion,
Miguel, Juan, David, Blanco, Elsa and Valerie; and numerous
Great-Grandchildren.
She
was preceded in
death by her parents, Juan and Louisa and by one Brother, Victor
Hernandez.
Rosary
is scheduled
for 7:00 PM, Sunday, April 11, 2004 at Family Services Funeral Chapel.
Mass of
Christian Burial is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Monday April 12, 2004 at St
Joseph
Catholic Church with Father Rudy Lacerno officiating. Interment will

William Paul “Bill”
Elliott, age 54,of Kermit, departed this life, Tuesday, April 13, 2004
at
Memorial Hospital in Kermit. Bill was born on
Monday, April 3, 1950, in Monahans, TX to the late Lyle and Bernice
Elliott. He
was joined in holy matrimony to Debbie (Dorff) Elliott on February 14,
1992 in
Dallas, TX.
Bill
was a self
employed Contractor and handy man that loved to build things, and he
loved
watching movies with his family.
He
is survived by his
loving Wife: Debbie (Dorff) Elliott of Kermit, his three Sons: Billy Paul and wife, Jan Elliott of Kermit,
Christopher Ray (Elliott) Pool and wife, Jennifer, of Arlington, TX,
and Shawn J. Kilpatrick of
Dallas,
Texas; three Daughters: Crystal Lea Elliott of Alabama, Rene Wilkins
and Jaime
Herriage both of Dallas, Texas; one Sister: Linda Pearson of Kermit,
Nephew:
Fred E. Pearson of Dallas, Texas, and Niece: Laurie Williamson of
Valera, Texas.
He
is preceded in
death by his parents and one brother Joe Elliott.
Funeral

Berniece Landona
Taylor, age 75 of Kermit, Texas passed away Friday, April 23, 2004, at
Winkler
County Memorial Hospital. Berniece was born to the late Henry and
Rosella
(Loch) Roby, on Sunday, September 2, 1928 in Clarksburg, West Virginia.
She was
a homemaker and resident of Kermit for 50 years.
She
was a loving wife
to her husband, Robert Lee Taylor for over 40 years of marriage. She is survived by her husband and
children. She had six sons: James Henry
Messman of Odessa, Denzil Messman of Jefferson, TX, Marshall Lee Taylor
of Mt.
Pleasant, TX, Jerry Taylor of Kermit, Bobby Taylor of Garland, TX, and
Wayne
Taylor of Junction, TX. She also was
the proud mother of three daughters; Dot Richardson of Wink, Sue Lafoy
of
Clyde, TX, and Donna Ryan of Colombus, OH. She
is survived by three of her sisters; Gerry
Conley of West Virginia,
Hazel Cicoff of Clarksburg, WV, and Bonnie Faught of Cleveland, OH. She was the grandmother of 27 grandchildren,
29 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in
death.
Berniece
was a member
of the First Assembly of God, and had been a member of the VFW
Auxiliary Post
#6284 for 30 years.
Graveside
services
were held at Kermit Cemetery on Tuesday, April 27th at 10:00
AM with
Rev. R.W. Heidecker officiating. The

Opal Ophelia Smith
|
Opal Smith died at
Kermit Healthcare in Kermit on Wednesday, April 28.
Born Opal Ophelia Kiser on November 4, 1913, in
Fannin County,
Texas, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of William Ellis Kiser and Nancy
Myrtle
Tollison Kiser, and she was the granddaughter of W. E. and Sarah C.
Kiser, and
of Horace Greenberry Tollison and Alice Lenora Richardson Tollison.
Mrs.
Smith, who spent
her early life on a farm, was educated in Fannin and Hunt Counties. She came to Winkler County as the young
bride of Walter Everette Ford, now deceased. In
1960 she married Claude Brown Smith of Wink.
As
a young girl, Opal
Smith was received into the Baptist Church. At
the time of her death, she was a member of Belvue
Baptist Church in
Kermit, a church family she loved and admired.
A
retired nurse, Mrs.
Smith worked for many years at the Winkler County Memorial Hospital,
the Jal,
N.M., hospital, and for Dr. Peddicord in Kermit. One of Mrs. Smith’s
greatest
loves was for nursing. She especially
enjoyed working with newborn babies and their mothers.
She retired as a nurse in the mid-1970’s,
but she never lost her zeal for caring for those who needed her.
Mrs.
Smith is
survived by her husband, C. B. Smith of Kermit, and by two daughters
and one
son-in-law: Jim and LaRue Moore of
Odessa, and Lois Coleman of Liberty Hill. She
was preceded in death by four children: William
Everette Ford, Robert Everette Ford,
Dawna Fay Ford, and
Christine Ford Benton. Mrs. Smith is survived by two granddaughters and
their
husbands, Mrs. Emily Hurt of Odessa and Quinn Henderson and her
husband, Jim,
of Liberty Hill, as well as by three grandsons and their wives, Don and
Leesa
Benton of Amarillo, Dee and Susan Benton of Midland, and Devin and
Coral Benton
of Amarillo. She is survived by nine
great-grandchildren.
Memorial
Services for
Mrs. Smith will be conducted by Reverend Gene Cannon at the Belvue
Baptist
Church, Kermit, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 1, 2004.
Arrangements
are
entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor of Kermit.
The
family wishes to
give special thanks to Mrs. Smith’s doctors and nurses, the nurses and
staff at
Kermit Healthcare, the Retired Nurses’ Association, members of Belvue
Baptist,

Wickson Geise |
Mrs. Adeline Geise,
age 87, of Monahans passed away May 12, 2004 at Monahans Managed Care
Center.
Mrs. Geise was born April 30, 1917 in Lovington, NM. to the late W.A.
Wickson
and Lindsey Margaret Layton. She was a homemaker and had been a
resident of
Monahans since 1991 and a prior resident of Kermit for 40 years.
Adeline
married
Victor Vernon Geise June 6, 1936 in Carlsbad, NM. Mr. Geise preceded
her in
death in August of 1993. Also preceding her in death were: four
brothers, W.A. Wickson,
Jr., David E. Wickson, Robert “Bob” Wickson, and Harold Wickson, one
sister,
Bessie Byler, and one grandson, Dan Curtis Hyman.
Those
left to cherish
her memory are one daughter, Gail Hyman and husband Don of Monahans,
one
grandson, Michael Don Hyman and wife Susie of Odessa, Four Great
Grandchildren,
Matthew Hyman and wife Leslie of Ft Worth, Jared Hyman and wife Natalie
of
Germany, Brandi Brazell and husband Joe of Odessa, and Joshua Hyman of
Odessa. Two very special nieces, Sue
Ann Goehry of Denver City, and Genie Cass of Grand Prairie; as well as
several
other nieces and nephews.
Graveside
services
were held at Kermit Cemetery 2:00p.m. Saturday May 15, 2004 with Pastor
Cory
Brand officiating.
Memorials may be made to
Odyssey Home Health of Odessa or to
Southside Baptist
Church
Vision Fund in Monahans.
Special
thanks to
Vickie Hood and R.J Taulbee for their loving care and kindness. Services were

Teresa Bradley age
32, of Kermit passed away May 12, 2004 at Covenant Lakeside Hospital in
Lubbock, TX. Teresa was born on April
24, 1972 in Odessa, TX. She was a
homemaker and had been a resident of Kermit all her life.
Teresa
is survived by
her husband Sammy Garcia of Kermit; Mother, Kathryn Putnam and husband
Richard
of Mentone; Father, Jerry Bradley and wife Carla of San Angelo;
Maternal
grandparents, Lee and Don Creager of Kermit; Paternal grandparents,
Zana and
Morris Bradley of Roundrock; 2 Sons, Jacob Garcia and Angel Rodriguez
both of
Kermit; Daughter, Myra Lisa Garcia of Mentone; 1 Sister, Sheila Bradley
of Lake
Charles, LA; and an aunt and uncle, Charlie and Regena Derrick of
Mentone.
Pallbearers
were
Sammy Garcia, Angel Rodriguez, Adrian Valeriano, Jose Florez, Ricky
Garcia, and
Trini Valeriano.
Funeral
services were
held 10 A.M. Saturday May 15, 2004 at Belvue Baptist Church with Pastor
Gene
Cannon officiating. The interment followed at Kermit Cemetery. Services were entrusted
to Family Services Funeral Parlor of Kermit.

"Gene" Mixon |
Eugene
"Gene" Mixon, age 73, went to be with his Lord on May 25, 2004 at
Winkler County Memorial Hospital in Kermit. He was born Thursday, July
17,
1930, in Albany, Shackelford County, Texas to the late John Andrew and
Aurora
(Wigley) Mixon. Gene married Yvonne
Breazeale on September 9, 1951 in Albany. He
and his wife Yvonne have been residents of Kermit
since 1972.
A
very loving and
caring husband, father and grandfather, Gene was a retired Supervisor
from the
Oil Field. He was an Elder and member of the Eastside Church Of Christ
for the
past 27 years.
Those
left to cherish
his memory are his Wife: Yvonne Mixon of Kermit; two Sons: Mike Mixon
and wife,
Judy, of Kermit and John Mixon and wife, Glenda, of Wink; two Sisters:
Irene
Caffee and husband, Charles, of Iowa Park, Texas and Faye Monroe of The
Woodlands, Texas; three Grandsons: Jesse Moore, Brian Mixon, John
Wesley Mixon;
and one Granddaughter: Brandy Mixon all of Kermit.
Gene
was preceded in death
by one son, Don Paul Mixon; one grandson, John Paul Mixon; and one
brother,
John Mixon.
Services
were held at
2:00 pm, Friday, May 28, 2004 at the Eastside Church Of Christ in
Kermit, with
Mr. Monty Huffman officiating. Interment
followed at the Kermit Cemetery.

were
Brian Mixon, John Wesley Mixon, Skeet Jones, John Mixon, Gerald Hudson
and
Steven Hooten. Honorary Pallbearers
were Ruben Aranda, Lonnie Marshall, Bill Sparks, Marvin Wilson and Bake
Davis.

Hoge |
Meta Elizabeth Hoge,
age 87, of Kermit, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 27, 2004
at
Regency Hospital in Odessa. She was born Friday, March 2, 1917, in
Terre Haute,
Vigo County, IN to the late Henry J and Maude Opal (Boyd) Mueller.
A
retired Real Estate
Insurer, she was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. Tommy’s love of
arts and
crafts built a desire in her to learn to make jewelry, candles and
needle
point. She was also a collector of books and dolls.
Those
left to cherish
her memory are one son: Ron Hoge and wife, Martha Jo, of Kermit; one
daughter:
Beverly Bondy of Orange County, Calif; twelve grandchildren and
twenty-one
great-grandchildren.
She
was also preceded
in death by her first husband, Ronald William Hoge in 1962 and by her
second
husband, Merlin "Sandy" Barb in 1981.
Funeral
Services are
scheduled for 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 29, 2004 at Zion Lutheran Church
with
Reverend Mike Fickenscher officiating. Arrangements are
