E. Henson |
Joseph
E. Henson, age 60, passed away
Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at his residence in Kermit. He entered this life
on Monday, June 7, 1943 in Saint Louis, Missouri. Mr. Henson was a
retired truck driver and was a member of First United Pentecostal
Church. He had been a resident of Kermit since 1972.
He
is survived by his wife Mrs. Margaret Jane (Bieries) Henson and two
children; daughter, Patricia (Henson) Chambers of Iowa Park, Texas, and
son, Marty Belcourt of Kermit, Texas. He came from a large family and
is survived by nine siblings. His sisters include: Ruth Custer of
Monahans, Shirley Virden of Florida, Maggie Smithhart and Wanda Milton
both of Kermit, Mary Eva Williams of Missouri, and Christina Harris of
Illinois. His brothers are Lee Henson of Sweetwater, Texas, Billy Ames,
and Thomas Henson both of Missouri.
Mr. Henson had six grandchildren; Tiffany Belcourt, Stephanie Belcourt,
Hailey Belcourt, Porscha Jane Adams, Jetta Mae Chambers, and Brandon
Belcourt. He also had two great-grandchildren, Xavier Porter and Shelby
Porter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Joseph Henson and Mary
Marie (Lincoln) Henson, one brother, and one sister.
Pallbearers were Mr. Henson's brother, Thomas Henson and several
nephews, including: Chris Smithhart, Steven Smithhart, Allen Smithhart,
Tommy Smithhart, and Bobby Custer. Joe Hughes was honorary pallbearer.
Arrangements were entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor of
Kermit. The funeral service was held at Family Services Funeral Chapel
at 3:00 PM Saturday, July 12, 2003, with Pastor Eddie Cotton
officiating. Interment followed at Psalm 23 Cemetery in Kermit.

Alvarez |
Manuel
Alvarez, age 39, of Odessa, passed
away Wednesday, July 23, 2003 in Ozona. He was born Thursday, April 2,
1964 in Sonora, TX to Jose and Lupe (Cardona) Alvarez. He was a member
of the Catholic Church.
A former Kermit resident, Manuel
attended Kermit High School prior to moving to Odessa. He had been a
resident of Odessa for 13 years and was employed by Cudd Pumping
Services.
He will be remembered with love by his wonderful, loving son, Nathaniel
Ross Alvarez of Odessa; his former wife, Jeanette Alvarez, of Odessa.
His parents: Jose and Lupe of Kermit; Two Sisters: Janie Nunez of
Odessa and Patsy Ferguson of Kermit; Two Brothers: Roy Villarreal of
Edna, Texas and John Alvarez of Odessa and his nieces and nephews:
Shane Dale Cohen, Rebecca Garcia, Rachel Garcia, Jonathan Miles
Alvarez, Jessica Michelle Alvarez, Roy Villarreal, Jr and Paul
Villarreal and a host of other relatives and friends.
Rosary is scheduled at 7:00 pm, Friday, July 25, 2003 at Family
Services Funeral Chapel with Demetrio Pineda leading the prayer.
Graveside service is scheduled at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 26, 2003 at
Kermit Cemetery with Fr. Richard Waiwood officiating. Arrangements are
entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

M. Jordan |
Mr. Jose M. Jordan, age 90, of
Kermit,
passed away Saturday, July 26, 2003. He was born April 26, 1913 in
Jimenez, Chihuahua, Mexico. Mr. Jordan was a rancher, a member of St.
Joseph Catholic Church, and had been a resident of Kermit for ten
years.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mrs.
Elodia Jordan, and three daughters: Rossy Lujan of Kermit, Maria Elena
Jordan of Midland, and Hayde Jordan of Coahuila, Mexico. His survivors
also include a sister, Rafaela Jordan of Guanajuato, Mexico, seventeen
grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and two great-great
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his
brother, Eliodoro Jordan,
his son, Jose Jordan, Jr., and his daughters, Elizabeth Jordan and Irma
Jordan.
Rosary service was at Family Services Funeral Chapel
at 7:00 pm Sunday,
July 27, 2003, officiated by Demetrio Pineda. Mass of Christian burial
was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 3:00 pm on Monday, July 28,
2003, with Father Richard Waiwood officiating. Family Services Funeral
Parlor of Kermit handled arrangements. Interment is at Kermit Cemetery.

Beatrice
C Adamson, age 93, of Alpine,
Texas, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at her residence in Alpine.
Beatrice was born Tuesday, April 26, 1910 in Alpine to the late Jesus
Abundio & Martina (Franco) Cobos. She married Hallie Levie Adamson
on September 14, 1944 in Alpine. He preceded her in death on December
16, 1967.
Beatrice was a homemaker and a member of the
Catholic Church.
She is survived by her Six Daughters: Mary Martinez,
Kate Dominguez and
Josie Galindo all of Carlsbad, NM; Rosie Arp and husband Raymond of
Tow, TX., Elizabeth Valenzuela of Kermit, TX and Mildred Robles of
Alpine, TX; Four Sons: Charlie Loya and wife, Aida of Odessa, TX; Rudy
Loya and wife Delma of Ruidoso, NM, Monroe Adamson of Tow, TX and
Jasper Adamson of Alpine, TX; Two Sisters: Brijida De Anda of Odessa,
TX and Elena De La Rosa of Fort Stockton, TX; One Brother: Jesus Cobos
and wife, Trixie of Odessa, TX; Twenty Eight grandchildren; Forty Seven
great-grandchildren; Twenty Six great-great grandchildren; and One
great-great-great grandchild.
Pallbearers are her grandchildren: Ruben Martinez,
Rudy Loya, Jr.,
Eddie Moreno, Robert Moreno, Ray Valenzuela and Donny Galindo.
Rosary is scheduled for 8:00 PM, Sunday, August 3rd
at Our Lady Of
Peace Catholic Church in Alpine.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10AM,
Monday, August 4, 2003
at Our Lady Of Peace Catholic Church with Father Miguel Alcuino
officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Angel Cemetery in Alpine.

Jose
Martinez Lara, age 61, of Odessa,
passed away Friday, August 1, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in
Odessa. He was born January 7, 1942 in Redford, TX to the late
Francisco and Sabina (Martinez) Lara.
Jose was an 11 year
resident of Odessa, having moved there from Kermit. He was a retired
truck driver and was a member of the St Joseph Catholic Church. Jose
was also a member of De Colores of Kermit.
He is survived by his wife Estefana of Odessa; One
Daughter: Linda Sue
of Bradenton, FL ( ???? ); Three Sons: Jessie Lara and Adrian Lara both
of Odessa and Joe Lara, Jr. of Kermit; Four Brothers: Manuel Lopez,
Raul Lara, and Alvino Lara all of Kermit and Isaac Ramirez of Andrews;
Nine grandchildren and Seven great-grandchildren.

2003 at Family

Sue Bandel, age 58, of Kermit,
passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2003, at her residence. She was the
daughter of the late George Barber and the late Alma (Wilson) Barber.
She is survived by her daughter: April Bandel of
Kermit and one
Brother: Sonny Barber of Odessa.
Funeral service will be at Friendship Baptist Church
at 2:00 PM Sunday,
August 10, 2003, with Rev Dale Billingsley officiating. Interment will
follow at Friendship Cemetery in Goreville, Ill.

Lowell Parker Lund,
age 79, of Midland, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2003, at Midland
Memorial
Hospital in Midland. He was born Thursday, December 20, 1923 in Story
County,
Iowa to the late Theodore and Sophie (Sydness) Lund. Lowell married
Mary
Shelley in Kermit on October 12, 1974.
Mr. Lund was a
Contract Administrator with Northern Natural Gas and had retired in
1981 after
32 years of service. Being one not to sit around, Lowell then came out
of
retirement and went to work for Midland Memorial Rehab where he retired
in 1994
as a Materials Manager. He was preceded in
death by his parents, one sister: Marilyn Burkhard, one son: John Lund
and his
great grandson: Tyllere Frie.
He is survived by
his wife Mary ; Two Sons: Paul Lund and
Mark Lund both of
Omaha, NE; Three Daughters: Loretta Tarango and Melinda Compton both of
Midland, and Vickie Frie of Wink; Eight grandchildren and Five
great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers
are his
grandchildren: Tommy Frie, Chris Compton, Brent Compton, Bandy
McKenzie, Justin
Tarrango and Brandon Tarrango. Honorary pallbearers are: Teddy Joe
Frie, Randy
Compton and Rudy Tarrango.
Funeral

18, 2003,
with Pastor Joe Mohler officiating. Interment
will follow at Kermit Cemetery. The family requests

| Edward Eugene Akins age
80, of Kermit, passed away Friday
August 29, 2003 at Midland Memorial Hospital. He
had been a resident of Kermit for 45 years. Mr.
Akins was born
October 3, 1922 in Paris, Texas to the late Leonard William and Minnie
Mae
(Eppers) Akins.
Mr.
Akins was a veteran
of WWII, having served in the U.S.
Army. He met and married Betty Marie Luck December 22, 1941 in
Coolidge,
Arizona. They moved to Kermit in 1958 where Ed was a lease operator for
Mobil
Oil, having retired after 35 years of service in 1995.
Mr.
Akins is survived by
his wife, Betty Akins of Kermit and
his sister, Jean Orsak of Alamogordo, New Mexico. He is survived by
seven
children. His daughters are Patsy
Gonzales of Bay City, Texas, Barbara Nichols of Odessa, Deborah Johnson
of
Mobile, Alabama and Candy Mitchell of Kermit. His
sons are Robert Akins of San Antonio, Texas,
Eddie Akins of Katy,
Texas, and Jimmy Akins of Bandera, Texas. His
survivors also include fifteen grandchildren and
twelve great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held privately.
Arrangements were entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Jose G. Polanco, age 63,
of Kermit, Texas, passed away
Sunday, August 31, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas He was born to the late Rafael Polanco
and
the late Margarita (Galindo) Polanco on Saturday, April 27, 1940. Mr. Polanco was a retired pulling unit
floorhand and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was a resident of Kermit for 23 years.He
married Gerardema
(Juarez)
Polanco in 1966 in Ojinaga, Mexico. She and
their five children survive him. They
have three daughters; Sandra Brown of Santa Fe, NM, and Carmen
Valenzuela and
Maria Urias of Kermit. Their two sons
are Lenin and Rodrigo Polanco of Kermit.
He came
from a large
family with eight siblings. His six
sisters survive him. They are: Eva Samaniego of Odessa, Lidia Carrasco of
Kermit,
Juana Acosta of Fort
Stockton, Carlotta Arreola of Kermit, Leonila Carrasco of Ojinaga,
Chihuahua,
Mexico, and Maria Bustamante of Andrews. He
was preceded in death by both of his brothers,
Hector and Manuel Polanco.
He has
thirteen
grandchildren: Neah, Gladys, Magaly, Alex,
Robert, Rosanna, Rene, Tiffany,
America, Calvin, Crista, Juan Jr., and Alyssa.
Rosary
will be held 7:00
pm Wednesday, September 3rd at
Family Services Funeral Chapel. Mass of
Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Thursday, September 4th at
St.
Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father John Lucido officiating.

passed away at her
home, Thursday, September 4, 2003, in Tucson, Ariz. One of five
children, she
was born Monday, April 11, 1927 in Monahans to the late Catarino Felipe

Manuela (Peralez) Zuniga.
Lenora
was a self-employed housekeeper and was a lifetime
resident of Tucson, AZ
She is survived by one Sister: Jesusita Vejil of Kermit; one
aunt: Benita Vargas of Artesia, NM, two nephews: Jesse Vejil of Kermit
and
Michael Suniga of Houston;nine nieces: Anita Vejil of Long Beach, CA,
Virginia
Donalson of Lodi, CA, Yolanda Brown of Odessa, TX, Rita Craig of
Lometa, TX,
Juliana Escobar of Kermit, Roxanne Vejil of Lodi, CA, Cindy Martin and
Lupe
Martinez both of Odessa, and Manuela Suniga of Midland, TX.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: Alejandro
Zuniga, Phillip Zuniga and Julian Zuniga.

Clark Leon
Stewart, age 86, of Kermit, Texas,
passed away Friday, September 5, 2003, at Memorial Hospital in Kermit.
A
Winkler County resident for 71 years, Mr. Stewart was born Tuesday,
July 3,
1917 in Gordon, TX to Henry and Chloe (Carter) Stewart.
Clark
graduated
from Kermit High School in 1938
then served in the Air Force during World War II. He married Joyce
Atwood on
November 6, 1942 in Kermit. After putting in 30 years of service with
Cabbott
Gas Plant, Clark retired as a Plant Operator. He was a member of the
First
Assembly of God.
A
loving husband, father, grandfather and
friend, he will be remembered with precious memories by his wife Joyce,
of the
home; two sons: Barry Stewart of Brazoria, TX and Cary Stewart of
Kermit; two
grandsons: Thomas Stewart of Breckenridge, TX and Brandon Stewart of
Kermit;
four granddaughter: Joy Foley of Auburn, WA, Cindy Stewart , Valerie
Burbaugh
and Alexis Burbaugh; four great-grandchildren: Nicholas Foley, Dylan
Foley,
Ireland Foley and Jerry Wayne Stewart; and one brother: Carter Stewart
of Voss,
TX.
He
was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Wayne
Stewart, in 1994.
Funeral

Heidecker

Alice Pipkin
|
Lura "Lou"
Alice (Gandy) Pipkin, a long time Kermit resident went from this life
to enter
into eternal life with her Lord on Thursday, September 11, 2003. Lou
had been a
resident of Kermit for 67 years. She was born November 11, 1910 in
Woodford,
Carter County, OK, to George Wesley and Ivy Mae (Bryant) Gandy.
Lou
attended Healdton
schools and graduated in 1929. She went on to attend Business College
in
Ardmore, OK, where, upon graduation, she married Garvice Delmer
"Buster" Pipkin in Ardmore in 1933. Lou and Buster moved to West
Texas in 1936 and took up residency in Kermit. Together, they started
GD
"Buster" Pipkin Trucking Company in 1945. Lou's primary job was to
take care of all the bookkeeping. After retiring from the trucking
business,
Lou started work as a sales clerk for Owen's Jewelry and Cone's Jewelry
in
Kermit until her retirement in 1984.
Lou
was a charter
member of the First United Methodist Church of Kermit and was a
founding member
and Treasurer for the Builders Sunday School Class for many years. She
served
on the Building Committee for the new Sanctuary in 1958 and for the
Educational
Building in 1963. Lou was also an active member of the UMW and the
Methodist
Women's Guild. She enjoyed quilting and was a needlepoint artist.
One
of the biggest
highlights of Lou's life was when she and Buster built their new home
in 1955.
Lou oversaw most of the construction and completion of the home. She
also
enjoyed going back to Healdton each August for the Old Timer's Reunion.
Lou
was preceded in
death by her husband, Buster, on February 5, 1967, her grandson, Mike
Hayes in
1995 and by five brothers and one sister.
She
is survived by
her daughter, Donna Hayes, and husband, Dennie of Kermit; one son,
Tommy Pipkin
of Kermit; six Grandchildren, fourteen Great-Grandchildren and many
nieces and
nephews.
Funeral
services will
be held at the First United Methodist Church, in Kermit, at 2:30 PM
Sunday,
September 14, 2003, with Reverend Beth Harrington officiating.
Interment will
follow at Kermit Cemetery. The
family has
entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor to handle the funeral
arrangements.

Josefa (Armendariz)
Morales, a 28 year resident of Kermit, passed away Thursday, September
25,
2003, at her home. She was born Friday, March 7, 1924, in Ojinaga,
Chihuahua,
Mexico. She was a homemaker and a catholic.
She is survived by
her husband Pedro Morales of Kermit; Six Daughters: Elfida De La Cruz
of
Merkel, Elida Rodriguez of Monahans, Emantina Saenz, Marta Emelda
Hernandez,
Juana Castillo and Irma Morales all of Kermit; Four Sons: Pedro Morales
and
Elinardo Morales both of Kermit, Isidro Morales of El Mulato, Mexico
and
Patricio Morales of Monahans; Two Sisters: Gloria Grado of Roswell, NM
and
Rufina Lujan of Andrews; Two Brothers: Demetrio Armendariz and Antonio
Armendariz both of Kermit and numerous granchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were
held at 12:00 noon, Sunday, September 28, 2003, at El Mulato Cemetery
in El
Mulato, Chihuahua, Mexico. Arrangements were entrusted to Family
Services
Funeral Parlor.

Manuela V Briones,
age 81, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2003, at Odessa Regional
Hospital. A
prior, lengthy resident of Kermit, Manuela had moved to Monahans in
2001. She
was born June 15, 1922 in Carlsbad, NM, to the late Jesus and Romana
(Madrid)
Valenzuela.
Manuela married
Marcelino Briones in 1936 in Redford, TX. She was a member of the St.
Joseph
Catholic Church and loved to play BINGO.
She
is survived by: Four Daughters: Erica
Briones of Monahans, Yolanda Honesto of Morton, Texas, Gloria
Armendariz of
Lubbock, and Irma Briones of Roswell, NM; Six
Sons: Mauricio Briones of Duncan, OK, Alonzo Briones of Jal, NM,
Pablo Briones of Vernon, Ill, Edmundo Briones of Kermit, Joel Briones
of Odessa,
and Edmundo Briones Jr. of Kermit; Three Sisters: Nico Lopez and
Rita Perez both of Kermit and Lola
Rios of Odessa; Two Brothers: Raymond
Valenzuela and Frank Valenzuela both of Kermit; Forty Nine
grandchildren; Twenty great-grandchildren; and Two
great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in
death by her husband, Marcelino, on December 16, 1991.
Rosary is scheduled
for 7:00 PM, Thursday, October 2, 2003 at Family Services Funeral
Chapel in
Kermit. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Friday,
October 3,
2003 at St Joseph Catholic Church with Interment to follow at Kermit
Cemetery.

Howell Gene Taylor

Mr. Howell Gene
Taylor, age 75, of Kermit, Texas, passed away Wednesday,
October 8,
2003 at his residence. He was born
Thursday ,
June 5, 1928 to Rufus and Ina Taylor in Dangerfield , TX. Mr. Taylor
attended
Brady schools, and in 1945 enlisted in the U.S.Navy where he served
aboard the
U.S.S. Jupiter. Upon being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1947,
Mr.
Taylor attended Eaton Barber College in Littlerock, Arkansas. He
married Ann
Hass October 15, 1955 in Hobbs, NM., and in 1962 Gene opened "Gene's
Barber Shop" and was later joined by his wife Ann and it is still in
operation today. He was known by some locals as "MEAN GENE THE CUTTING
MACHINE". Mr. Taylor was a member
of First Christian Church, member of
Kermit Lodge # 1258 Af & Am, and
Scottish Rite- El Paso. Mr. Taylor was
a resident of Kermit 44 Years, and
enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, and camping. He
will be
missed by all.
He was preceded in
death by his parents and one sister Mildred Cassin.
He is survived by his
wife Mrs. Ann Taylor; Two Daughters: Martha Vining and husband, Gil, of
Lubbock, and Mary Rainer and husband Mike of Flagstaff, AZ; One Son:
Howard
Taylor and wife, Shawn, of Spring, TX; Two Brothers: Edwin Taylor of
Hope, AK
and Gerald Taylor of Greeley, CO. His mother and father-in- law, Bess and Bill Orchard, of Iraan, TX; One
Brother-in-law, Bill Cassin of
Springhill, AR and 9 Grandchildren.

Mr.
James "Jay" Allen Marshall, age 37, of Midland, TX, passed away into
the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, October 7, 2003. He was born December
13, 1965, in Richland Hills, TX. James attended Ft Stockton schools and
received his associate's degree in computer science from South Plains
College in Canyon, TX. He was an oilfield worker around the Odessa area.
Preceding him in
death was a daughter, Stormy Ann Marshall, his paternal grandparents,
Geneva
and Allen Marshall, his maternal grandparents, Lennie and James Preast,
and a
brother Jerry Lee Nickels, Jr.
James is survived by
his father, Earnie Marshall of Sweetwater, TX; mother, Ann Cook of
Midland; two
daughters, Misty Marshall of Moore, OK, and Justine Marshall of Kermit;
three
brothers, Philip Nickels of Omaha, NE, Earnie Olin of Sherman, TX, and
Stephen
Douglas Paternastra of Albuquerque, NM; two sisters, Vickie Fanning of
Midland,
and Tamera Althof of Tuscon, AZ; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts,
uncles,
cousins, and many friends.
Visitation was held
5:30 to 7:00 PM, Friday, October 10, 2003. Funeral services were held
10:00 AM,
Saturday, October 11, 2003, at Family Services Funeral Chapel with Mr.
Don
Kennedy officiating. Interment followed at Kermit Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Odie
Marshall, Mike Marshall, Duke Marshall, Tim Beard, Tracy Preast, and
Weldon
McKelvain.

George Allen Fogle
|
George Allen Fogle of Kermit went to
be with the
Lord on Monday, October 13, 2003, at Covenant Health System in Lubbock,
Texas.
He was born Friday, July 11, 1941 in Kermit to James Rufus and Mattie
Jewell
Davis. George was a lifetime resident of Kermit and was a self-employed
contract carpenter. He was a member of
First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his
wife Donna of Kermit, TX.; two daughters, Lena Dawson of Artesia, NM.
and
Kathryn Fogle of Midland, TX.; one son, Matt Fogle of Lubbock, TX.;
three
sisters, Shirley Wills of San Angelo,
TX., Peggy Lavers of Odessa, TX., and Dorothy Thorpe of Granbury, TX.;
2
brothers, John Fogle of Kermit, TX, and Ralph Fogle of Oklahoma City,
OK and
two grandchildren Todd and Phillip Dawson of Artesia, NM.
Pallbearers will be
Bill Huff, Travis Watson, Daegan Arnold, Ty Miller, David McGuire and
George
Barta. Honorary Pallbearers are Jack Arnold, Charles Stodghill, Kevin
Arnold
and Dennie Hayes.
Graveside services
will be at Kermit Cemetery at 10:00 AM Thursday, October 16, 2003,
officiated
by Rev. Beth Harrington and Rick Mcgee of Covenant Health System of
Lubbock.
Arrangements are
intrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.
The Family request
that Memorials be made to American Heart Association and First United
Methodist
Church of Kermit.

Hiram William Keith
|
Hiram
William Keith, age 79, of Kermit, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2003,
at Parks Methodist Retirement Village in Odessa. He was a retired,
self-employed Petroleum Engineer Consultant. Hiram was born Thursday,
November 22, 1923, in Rosedale, Wyandotte County, Kansas to Hiram and
Grace (Ackard) Keith.
A member of Community
Church, Hiram served in the United States Marine Corp from July 1, 1943
until March 14, 1944, he then transferred to the United States Navy and
served as Lieutenant (JG) from March 14, 1944 through June 10, 1946. He
was also a member of VFW Post 6284, the Texas Turner Two Woodworking
Association and a past member of the Kermit Downtown Lions.
He married Louise Hearon in 1947 in Ardmore, OK.
He is survived by his
wife Louise Keith of Kermit; Two Daughters: Alice Rene' Griggs of India
and Marian Stasney of Buta, TX; One Son: Reginald Keith of
Houston, TX and Five grandchildren: Lauren Marie Keith, Shelly Keith,
Christine Keith, Grace Keith and Keith Stasney.
Funeral Services are
scheduled for 2 pm, Wednesday, October 22, 2003, at Community Church
with Reverend Henry Freund officiating. Interment will follow at Kermit
Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.
